Oh, damn, I was really hoping that he'd have continued under Chibnall's tenure on the show. We never really got a sense of what the Twelfth Doctor was all about, he was always terribly inscrutable and often playing second fiddle to Clara which didn't really help with defining who he was. He started off as deliberately unlikeable, but we never really got where precisely that had come from really. I've got a strong suspicion that we're going to be getting more than a little bit of Sixy-style retconning for him later on down the track in EU media. You had me at Honour Blackman and Emma Thompson. I've always wondered how things would have gone if William Hartnell had regenerated into Audrey Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn... I can honestly say, until this post, I never once made that connection, now I may never get it out of my head. I know right? It popped right into my head after I saw a photoshopped image that reimagined Planet of the Dead as a First Doctor story with Diana Rigg as Christina de Souza. Isn't that a terribly clever piece of work?

Every time I start to get used to a new actor playing the doctor in this new series they leave. Capaldi is easily my favorite of the new doctors and I was really hoping he would be the one to stick around a little longer. The classic series did a fantastic job of giving each doctor their own distinct personality. I never thought the new series pulled this off very well. While I enjoyed Eccelston, Tennant, and Smith's performances, I always felt their doctors just weren't all that different from each other. Capaldi is the first new series doctor who was really making the character his very own and had the potential to be the best doctor ever. He revitalized my interest in tv who and I feel like he's barely scratched the surface in the role. I think I've finally reached my limit with the three year rule. At this point I'm way more interested in Big Finish Who than TV Who. Big Finish has disappointed me a lot less.

My 13 year old son after being told that Capaldi is leaving, "Awww. They're gonna get another young dude, and it's gonna suck. I'm going to bury my sorrows in D&D." Well, at least he has the right priorities.
I was also hoping for another year with Capaldi. I really wanted to see what a different show runner could do with his Doctor. It could have been spectacular.

I think a lot of people are loud about it, but there are also a lot of people on the other side very loud about it. I should also add that it's about the same and quite a few regularly wouldn't pick sides, unless it happened. I think there are a few loud people on both sides, and most people wouldn't care. I don't think casting a woman would really help or hurt the show any more than casting another man would. It all depends on the actress. I do think they'd have to go for a fairly well-known TV actress though.

I'd have liked a season with Capaldi & Chibnall just to see what direction they'd take it, i won't moan on about how i don't want a female Doctor cause i don't & that opinion will never change, my moneys on Ben Whishaw, a younger doctor for the fangirls to drool over & a quirky actor who'd fit well in the role.

Hello again.
Now here's an interesting thing. My daughter's reactions to Mr. Capaldi leaving was unanimously positive. They like all the previous Nu-Whos and my youngest likes Sylvester McCoy.
My oldest who was a massive Matt Smith, Amy, Rory and River Song fan said it wasn't Peter Capaldi she didn't like. It was how his dialogue was written when talking about or to Clara. She took it as demeaning to women particularly the comments about Clara's appearance during seaason 8.
Series 8 except for Missy was completely spoiled by that dialogue. So sometimes it is not just a Doctor's character that puts casual viewers off, it is the writing. She was equally pleased to hear Mr. Moffat was hanging up his Tardis pen. She feels that he didn't write his female characters as well. The only time he did they were flawed, mad as a box of frogs or psychotic e.g Amy, River Song and Missy.
It will be very interesting to see the sixth and final season of the Moffat era. I really hope its as good as Russell T. Davies 2008 season. I liked the twelfth Doctor. He reminded me of the brusqueness of Hartnell with the unpredictability of Tom Baker. You never knew which side of the coin you were going to get.
I am looking forward to Pearl Mackie as Bill. Will she be a walking plot device like Clara and to a certain extent Amy or will she be a believable human character?
Ten weeks or so till Season 10 and the end of an era.

A couple of people on the Big Finish Audio group on facebook claim they asked Capaldi directly at a convention whether he'd be interested in doing Big Finish apparently the answer was no...whether that was a lie or true isn't clear, but I'd assume Capaldi wouldn't want to do any audios for a while after leaving the show anyway, perhaps he'll change his mind once he's had a few years away from the franchise.
Presumably it's a moot point anyway as BF's current license through to 2025 only covers up to Matt Smith.

Hello again. Yes Timelordl007, that's a good idea. I'll throw my hat into the ring too. My only requirement? I have to bring my black labrador Scooby with me to travel in the TARDIS. He is laid back, will do anything for food, is frightened of waves and cannot retrieve to save his life.
DOCTOR: "Quick Scooby! Fetch that tissue compression eliminator before Missy grabs it. No! Don't lie down." MISSY: "Ah Scooby that's right. You're on my side, you cute canine, you."
I like Ben Whishaw. Outfit: blue duffle coat, red hat and wellie boots. This Doctor is a bit accident-prone, loves marmalade sandwiches and he gives villains very hard stare if he catches them trying to take over the world.

Hello again. You are right aztec. The Doctor has been played by actors of all different ages. It has been an interesting change to have an irascible Doctor who like many older people has this ability not to care two hoots what people think of him. I am looking forward to Season 10 to see where Twelvish goes this year.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I've loved Mr Capaldi as The Doctor: he's turned me back into a proper fan of the show as opposed to someone who really likes the rejuvenated version. I can't believe he's quitting but after hearing about his knees (apparently he and Matt Smith have exactly the same joint condition) I can't say I blame him. Plus he's going out when he chooses to rather than hanging on for too long: I'd rather miss the actor rather feeling resentful of him.
My list for a replacement:
Kenneth Branagh Josette Simon Hayley Atwell Richard Coyle Dominic West Robert Pattinson (in all seriousness, he is a terrific actor) Richard E. Grant

Robert Pattinson (in all seriousness, he is a terrific actor) Are you sure you're being serious? He's one of the worst young actors out there.

He's pretty good, actually: I've liked a couple of films he's done and I think that he'd give the part a decent run, probably in a couple of regenerations. I think he's got a few more credits and reviews and big parts than, say, Sylvester McCoy had when he took over the role. Yeah - I went there. ;-)

I will admit that he was bearable in Harry Potter but in the awful Twilight films you had to turn the volume up in able to hear him. a Jan 31, 2017 10:18:05 GMT nucleusofswarmv2 said:Are you sure you're being serious?
