Yeeeeeees. No, but, in all seriousness, would be pretty amusing if it was Mark Gatiss playing the next Doctor. They should have had a flashback in the last episode of Sherlock of Capaldi regenerating into Cumberpatch.

To be fair though, he kind of had to - the episode he was leaving in was the second week in February. Not like he could have announced he was leaving a month after Capaldi did...we'd have seen him leave 3 weeks ago by that stage. No they planned it for the day before the second part of the London EP was broadcast so something went awry and the timing almost seems too coincidental.

Yeah but my point is they'd have to announce Kris leaving before 9th Feb when his departure from DiP aired. Capaldi's announcement was what? January 31st. The two things were happening at the same time regardless of Kris being linked to Who. If Kris'd been cast in something else entirely, his departure would still have been around the same time Capaldi made his announcement. Fans then made up this "He wants to be closer to his family" story I debunked earlier to add even more circumstantial evidence. Insert the McGann quote about humans and patterns here. He may very well be The Doctor - I'd be pretty happy if he is.

Go on Facebook, reddit, Gallifreybase, digital spy forum and you'll see there's a huge amount of people opposed to the idea...of course a handful of online fans/casual viewers wouldn't represent the views of the average viewer, but from conversations I've had with family/friends who aren't hardcore fans of the show they are just as skeptical or hostile to the idea. I'm personally 100% fine with the idea...but I'm rather more concerned about how they would write the character. Couldn't have put it better myself. The thing is that I know a lot of people who would come back if Kris Marshall was the Doctor.

Is there a significance to the locations in the trailer?
And is there a reason for the synth music, which is rare in modern Who?

I'm not saying it won't be significant but if someone decides against casting a woman on that basis alone then shame on them!

Literally, anyone outside of this forum, that I've spoken to or talked to on other boards abhor the idea of a woman Doctor. And I've talked to a helluva of a lot of people about this.

After all, that's just asking a subset of a given population for their opinion on something. It's simply more organized than an individual reading opinions expressed across forums and in persons.

I find it a bit interesting and I like different perspectives, so... what is it that you don't like about him?

I think if he is cast there will be an immediate rise in ratings based purely on the fact that "Oh its that bloke off of Death in Paradise". As long as there are good stories I suppose...but when Colin Baker was cast I stopped watching based largely on his performance. I tried again when McCoy took over but found him equally awful. Would I try again with a Doctor I don't like? I doubt it.

They could also be announcing it now before the general audience forget that he's leaving. But if it is because of leaks, most likely possibility is Paterson Joseph, I think.

I find it a bit interesting and I like different perspectives, so... what is it that you don't like about him? I've only seen bits and pieces of his work outside My Family, he's a decent enough actor but not really someone whose screen presence excites me, his image and personality just reminds me too much of Tennant/Smith and I'm not entirely convinced he'd bring something brand new and dramatic to the role in the way his four predecessors did, he just seems like the type of actor you'd cast if you wanted to tick a generic doctor box and I'm not particularly keen on the idea of three years of generic who playing things safe. Capaldi worked so well because he was a polar opposite in age, appearance and style of acting to Smith, not sure I could say the same about Marshall.

I really hope that Wimbledon ends with Sue Barker saying, "Peoples of the Universe, please attend carefully. The message that follows is vital to the future of you all."

I had a dream t'other night that their first or last name began with an 'R'.. I'll leave that here in case it turns out correct, then I'll binge on cheese and try and get us the lottery numbers. I'm all for sharing

I'm the other person! RIP Doctor Who for me if he is cast. Why? Surely, you'd watch his first episode, at least? I probably would eventually, depending on reviews, although I'm a Who fan there's only certain Doctors/era's I consider myself a real fan of, e.g. I have little desire to revisit the Pertwee era or Tennant's first series, I haven't watched half of Smith's episodes and have little desire to, I think I could cope without watching it for a couple of years, BF is doing perfectly alright creating great Who stories on their own.
