Not the way they did the last one! Is my answer to the original question.
Eh, the BBC needs to keep Doctor Who fresh and exciting. I didn't mind The Next Doctor's approach that much. Wasn't Matt Smith announced in such a matter in the UK, though?
I don't think Thirteen will cameo in a Twelve story. It's been done in The Day of The Doctor and inevitably makes comparsions between Doctors.

In the UK we got a pre-recorded programme discussing the history of Doctor Who and then revealing Matt Smith. Nothing flash, nothing live.

I'd just reveal the new Doctor as the old one regenerates.

Cheers Tony I'd rather know in advance. It would be boring not being able to rant or praise the choice for months until the Christmas Special airs.

If the first time you see them is in that role, you then base your like/dislike on that performance. That's how it was with Matt Smith for me Cheers Tony

For me, it's the reality of watching the part where the fun lies (or not of course) Cheers Tony

They're an actor, they can play it anyway they like.

But it's fun to speculate. If it ends on a surprise Regeneration, you still get your discussion while waiting for the new series, and it's still a surprise, AND it makes it easy to prevent a leak as you'll likely only need them for a couple hours of filming, presumably in-studio. C'mon Moffat! Still...no thanks.

Eh, I think the handover of Doctors is best as it is. Let the public deattach and get invested in the new guy.

The main issue I have with announcing the next Doctor is that it detracts from the Current Doctor's last year. Rather than enjoying (or not) his performance, "we" are already speculating on who is going to fill his shows - once the new Doctor is announced, the speculation intensifies. It would be nice to just enjoy (or not lol) Capaldi's last season.
Cheers
Tony

I pay very little attention to the speculation (thankfully in Canada there really isn't much in the media) so I am okay with seeing a news item announcing who the lucky actor is, but it would be much nicer to keep it a secret. I think that would make the regeneration episode that much more special and must watch.

How should they announce the new Doctor? I think it should be announced in English.

I think it would kill the regeneration because he'd regenerate and more likely than not you'd be scratching your head wondering who the new person is when the regeneration is complete.
