I've seen some Social Media comments about the probable cancellation of Class.
They weren't surprised but hoped that the BBC would commission something else because Doctor Who Needed a A TV Spin-Off.
My opinion is that its never Needed a TV Spin-Off but I've watched when they were on and I liked the majority of TW and SJA.
But does it Need a TV Spin-Off in your opinions?
Regards

In this world of shared universes, Doctor Who definitely needs a spinoff. They just made the wrong choice for one this time round. Sherlock may need a replacement, so how about a Paternoster Gang spinoff for BBC1 9pm?

Does Doctor Who need a spinoff? Absolutely not.
Would it be a good thing if Doctor Who had a spinoff? Absolutely.
If Class is really cancelled, then at least we have audio spinoffs to keep the Doctor Who universe big. Then one day we'll hopefully get another tv spinoff as well.

No!
I don't see the need for a spin-off anyway. Doctor Who is Doctor Who.

It doesn't need a spin off. I enjoyed watching SJA and Torchwood, but I saw them years after they were broadcast on TV. I thought about Class, recorded it, forgot to watch any, don't feel the need to watch them now. It doesn't need a spin off. It needs good, regular Doctor Who!
Cheers

No show "needs" a spin off.
It doesn't matter if a show is in rude health or clearly dying on its feet.
Spin offs can work, but being a spin off is no guarantee.
I wouldn't mind something concentrating on Unit or Torchwood, but it's not a strong desire.

It doesn't need one really.
Would it be nice to have one? Yes, but it's not necessary

I'm going to vote yes, with the caveat that we don't "need" it, strictly speaking, but I think that side stories like SJA and Torchwood are generally complimentary. They enrich the shared universe and make Doctor Who better than it would be without them.

I am not sure if "The Eighth Doctor Adventures" would be a spin-off. Starring Paul Mcgann and Sheridan Smith (Just Imagine!!!) BBC do it!!! You know it makes sense.

No. But the 8th doctor I would watch, though I wouldn't consider it a spin off

I think we all can agree that they need to ressurect K9 & Company. Sadly, he would need new company, but it would be worth it to bring that theme song back.

No. But the 8th doctor I would watch, though I wouldn't consider it a spin off Exactly, it would just be Doctor Who, surely? We don't need a spinoff, no. The Beeb could use another family drama show for the Who off season though. Merlin worked well, Robin Hood died a slow death and Atlantis did poorly. Using Who to spin-off something makes sense exposure wise if done correctly, like TW and SJA. We have relatively little genre TV made and a tiny amount for the whole family. Seems a market that would be desirable but production costs can be very high these days unless you do a co-production and then the Beeb see less returns and they're reliant on the partner wanting to make more. As we saw with Torchwood Miracle Day it did really well here....but it flopped on Starz. So despite the success on BBC1 it was curtailed because the partner dropped out. Who knows? Maybe we'll get something down the line if an idea seems viable or a character in the show becomes popular but I wouldn't be counting my chickens.

Although I wasn't into Torchwood at the time (now I am thanks to Big Finish) I think someone made a good point that RTD did a good job of expanding the Whoinverse to have distinct series for adults, family, and children so he could literally play around the world in many different contexts.
I don't think Doctor Who needs a spin off but if there is a good idea for one then why not? Granted I haven't seen Class yet (except some clips of a lot of kissing) but it barely feels like a spinoff. Where is the catch to get people to watch besides saying it is a spin off of Doctor Who? Torchwood had Jack, SJA of course had Sarah Jane. Is the setting of Coal Hill enough to entice people to watch?

Interesting question!
What the BBC needs is another sci-fi series, that has no connection to Doctor Who, and its production team.

Good interesting question! not quite, another good sci fi series. Seems like they produce a bunch of sci fi series, just not good ones. It's not as simple as saying "Let's make this one good!" - you think they produce shows with the intention of them being bad? And what are the "bunch" of sci-fi shows the BBC are producing? News to me.

Namely mystery, unanswered questions etc.
