I have to vote against The Rocket Men. I found the premise unappealing, The Dialogue stilted, the character subplot unbelievable and a rare case of William Russel's narration not being very good and John Dorney's writing not as good as his other stories. I haven't even tried Return of The Rocket Men yet because I have been wary of them now. Is it any good and does it address any problems I have pointed out.

I cant tell you because i dont recognise the original as having any of those problems to begin with. It is pure poetry, not narration.

And that is totally fair enough, I just didn't't click for me, but I'm glad that others love it so much. I thought it would be helpful to the people looking for recommendations to have multiple perspectives.

I liked Return of the Rocket Men a lot better than The Rocket Men. The Rocket Men didn't really work for me, as I said upthread.

Haven't heard the sequel yet, but while I did like "Rocket Men", I think I would have liked it better without the split timeline perspective. In some ways it helps create tension, and the cliffhanger is terrific, but in other ways it just messed with the pacing. It was especially weird having exposition conveyed to me through the situation, then going back in time and having it explained again with narration.
