Comments from Chibnall and Jodie were very conspicuous by their absence. When we got the Capaldi reveal, we also got the "No frills, no scarf, just 100% rebel Time Lord" quote to go with it. It seems rumours that Chibnall will be playing things a lot closer to the chest than RTD and Moffat might be true. Which is still the most unnerving aspect of this Era so far so many decisions that the general fan needs positive reinforcement of and there's no one like a RTD or Julie Gardner type doing it.

It's still very, very early days. Broadchurch proved Chibnall doesn't need a lot of promotion...just good promotion and storytelling that gets people talking.

I'm not too fond of it on an initial reaction, but I'm sure I'll get used to it pretty quickly. I actually quite like the suspenders and the coat.

Yeah, it's not doing very much for me either (though I've got a mild/strong unconscious bias against a female Doctor and am still adjusting to the idea, so I'm expecting to take a bit of time getting used to anything relating to all this ). To be honest, it looks like a 6-year-old was given access to their parents' wardrobe and allowed to dress themselves in anything they want... You should be fine, since 12 different Doctors immediately came to mind when you said this, starting with Tom Baker in a Viking helmet. Although perhaps they shouldn't have made it look quite so much like she was debuting in a butter advert? I've adjusted the backlighting slightly here...

At the end of the day I doubt anyone is going to be tuning in, or not tuning in, based on the chosen outfit, it's really just something to spitball about until the next small morsel of information comes along, and then we'll obsess over that for a while instead...

But to paraphrase "its different this time" the strength of feeling on the change is not decreasing, true they don't need constant promotion but when information is released they need to have a face that will engage positively with the media at least.

Chris, and his team, know what worked on Broadchurch, they'll know what has and hasn't worked in New Who and they've got the benefit of Jodie's casting getting the show talked about in a way it hasn't been since the 50th and really since Tennant's era....time for benefit of the doubt, surely?

At the end of the days if the choice is between safe and bland or one of Robin Williams castoffs circa 1979, I know what I'm happier with.
But let's be honest, there's a certain segment who would have complained regardless of what it looked like, who wouldn't if it was been worn by someone with a schlong.

Ok, let's be honest, what was the need to bring the gender politics up again. There was absolutely no one complaining about the costume because it was worn by a woman. People are being very civil about this topic now, but you purposely pushing at them.

I like it. It's nothing crazy but I wouldn't say it's a typical normal outfit either. Besides, it's likely we might get outfit switch-ups later on a la Eleven and Twelve.

My initial reaction...honestly it looks a bit flat and impractical, the retro look is interesting but the suspenders? Looks like it was thrown together in a hurry...which to be fair might actually be an interesting hint at 13's character (though I'm glad they didn't over sexualise Jodie) exactly what a timelord with notoriously poor fashion sense might wear after millenia as a male. Not really a fan tbh, just seems a bit...odd...will wait to see her in action. Love it! But we call them braces not suspenders. They are something else entirely! As for it being a bit odd, well remember the celery! lol

But the point stands, the insertation of gender politics is unnecessary and grating. Is it possible that they aren't brought up if they aren't relevant to the conversation.

Strong reminders of Two, Four, and Ten in the outfit. I get a more whimsical vibe from it, which makes me curious to see what the comedy elements will be like with Thirteen.

This was the post I happened to jump into the thread at, before I saw the actual picture... ...sometimes the gap between English and American English can be magnificent in its unintended consequences! (Naughty, naughty imagination!) Those are entirely respectable braces that the Doctor is wearing!

I'd agree wth the 'retro' comment, but the Doctor has a semi-permanent Edwardian fashion style and the Thirteenth incarnation will express it by wearing braces again. (Is she the fourth or fifth to do so?) Overall: quirky, certainly but the Doctor traditionally does 'quirky'. The outfit isn't scarily offputting and that's not something every new Doctor could say... (Winces at the memory of 1984... ) Personally I think the Doctor should take advantage of the TARDIS's legendary vast wardrobe room and wear varying clothes like the Third and Fourth and Twelfth Doctors did and normal people do; clothes, not a 'costume' - a strange idea which came in with JNT I think.

It's been done: "Pyramids of Moos" {Spoiler} ('I bring Sutekh's gift of milk to all humanity' - check your Pyramids DVD for 'Oh Mummy' and Sutekh the milkman!)

However, all is well and we simply have another incarnation who expresses the Doctor's semi-permanent Edwardian fashion style by wearing braces, again. (Is she the fifth to do so?) I wear braces to work all the time and so do a few younger guys in the office....a couple in a hipster-ish way I suppose. But the braces keep my trousers up and don't dig in like a belt does if I......overdo the munchies when I've got some time off Can't say I wear suspenders too often though...

Oh sure, all fashions come round again and again - for me, braces are so 1980s! (Especially red ones.) But the Doctor does often seem to favour an earlier 20thC 'academic' look: braces, bow ties, hats, tweed, boots - pick-and-mix? OK, the Sixth's costume is unplaceable and the Ninth was modern and no-nonsense, but otherwise they have all had a certain general style I think - that of the learned and slightly eccentric individual? I think Thirteen's costume is in keeping with tradition, even 'safe' compared with my Doctor's frilled and ruffled 70s flamboyance!
