I'd love to be in series 11 ... now who would I play? Cheers Tony We wouldn't want to lose you here though. Time machine ... as long as it's not one of those unreliable Type 40s As for series 11, my hope is for something that feels fresh and yet at the same time is reassuringly familiar. I know ... never gonna happen ... Cheers Tony

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

No, because there's no way of comparing the casting of a woman or black Doctor with the show's history. why not? Never in the history of the show has there been a black or female doctor. <cough> Martha Jones </cough>

She was a "regular" doctor. You mean a "GP"? A student doctor in residency at Royal Hope Hospital according to TARDIS Wikia, so she'd likely have some form of degree or qualification under her belt by the time the Doctor turned up.

Oh, right, and I hope they change the theme back to something that actually sounds like Doctor Who, dammit!

Well I wouldn't be surprised if he was. They'll want someone who has been a success in other shows and is well known. And probably won't be a woman, despite all the PC stuff surrounding the casting. Wouldn't be surprised if Kris Marshall is also on their list and Richard Ayoade, as people definitely know them and they're the kind of stars who'd make people watch the show. Kris Marshall and Richard Madden would be boring because it's just the white British male again. I think Richard Ayoade would be a good choice though.

Why do you think he would be better than the other two you mention?

Why do you think he would be better than the other two you mention? He's different to the white British male (we've already had that for the last 54 years) and has a natural eccentricity to him.

Would Ayoade be willing to put his directorial career on hold for 3 or 4 years? He's said he would like to get back to that sooner than later, when promoting the Crystal Maze last year. Submarine and The Double were both really good and I'd like to see him make more offbeat films like them. I really enjoy him as a comic actor going right back to Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, The Mighty Boosh and Nathan Barley but I'm not sure I've seen him play anything dramatic or tense that would suggest he'd be capable of handling all facets of the role. Not saying he couldn't, just that I don't think he's shown it. By the by, The IT Crowd is now nearly 12 years old. Where does time go?

Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant and Peter Capaldi are Scottish.

So a white, British male in the role of the Doctor would be boring simply because he is a white, British male? Do you not feel that's a limited outlook?

Would certaily bring a big following both cult and mainstream from Game Of Thrones and, hey, in Cinderella he acted opposite not one but two Masters. He would though be not only be another white guy - if the Beeb are looking to diversify from the model - but the 3rd Scottish Doctor in the last 4. Not even just Scottish but all from within a 15 mile radius. Tennant and Madden are both Paisley boys while Capaldi, like me, is West End of Glasgow just up the road from them. I'd imagine there'd be conspiracy theories.
