I'm not really sure that the Daleks were necessary, but for the most part it was a good episode. I'm still not sold on Bill, I think it's going to take a few episodes for me to decide whether I like her. It seems they are very much part of a contractual arrangement, but I'm always happy to see the old slapheads. It's also nice to see something different done with them. They were certainly giving those Movellans a good thrashing.

Something about it was lacking for me. Can't quite put my finger on it. Not to say it wasn't any good but I'm hoping for more in future episodes.

That was a solidly enjoyable series opener i.m.o, gently paced (perhaps too much so, took a while to get into the 'meat of the plot'), nice balance of humour and scares, fine acting all round (Nardole continues to amuse) and a great introduction to Bill (who is instantly likeable) as a new companion, very different tone to S8-9 (which I really enjoyed for the most part, but change can never be a bad thing).
...Though I was a tad confused why the Doctor didn't seem overly concerned that an invincible puddle alien spaceship (which could have been explained clearer-what was it doing there? why was it seemingly invincible? who were the aliens inside?) turned up at precisely the same town as the vault he was guarding (speaking of which I hope it is worth the wait to find out, surprised they didn't end the episode with a further tease...), perhaps it will be explained further later in the series.
Simple but very enjoyable, reminded me of early RTD era, in a good way, very promising start i.m.o, though I couldn't help but wish for something with a little more umph after such a long gap since the last series.

Despite nothing much happening it was the most I've enjoyed an episode of doctor who in ages. Reminded me a bit of classic who and so far Bill is the best companion in ages. Solid 7/10.

I think it was comparable to one of the better episode of series 8 - good, but nothing special.

It wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it was a lovely little episode, and it made the show feel fresh again having a new companion showing up (yeah, we had Nardole, but he just... kind of showed up). I think I'll need to rewatch it to really appreciate the episode, but a nice opener to the show that wasn't bogged down with continuity references - a good jumping on point.
If I have one complaint, it seemed like the Daleks were shoehorned in (the Movellans were a nice touch, though), but I'm hoping that it'll be the only appearance from them this series - I'd like them to make a big return for 13's first Dalek-centric episode.
But, yeah, I enjoyed it.

It's got to the point where I'd be happy to never see a Dalek again in New Who (though I think they actually appeared more frequently in the Classic series...), there's nothing wrong with them, but they are scariest in moderation i.m.o... Really enjoyed the episode, but to nerd out a bit, it was a tad weird that the Movellans were fighting time war era Daleks...

I got a few 'Shada' vibes from the University scenes, but it really reminded me of 'Rose' if anything with the companion's point of view, leisurely pace and everyday object turning lethal etc...

ok it was both good and bad for me.
the bad lazy writing & poor dialogue, how often did we need to hear acronym, sledgehammer set-ups for later on in the series. the Dalek segment seemed written around, the all ready filmed intro segment and was contrived rubbish. less is definatly more with the CGI, some of the water/girl morphing was a bit below par and did really need to see it? Capalidi....STOP SHOUTING
the good shocked to actually like Bill, looking forward to seeing her more.....shame the intro & pre season press, did her no favors, she is better than that suggested. the tension with Bill at home and the drain shot, worked wonderfully Nardole, was intrigueing and worked quite well Bill's Tardis entry worked well and was actually funny
on the whole for me, was a terrible story saved by a great performance from a new companion. enjoyed this episode more than most of last season, still don't like Capaldi as the doctor, but unburdened from Clara we actually see his potential to change my mind.

One thing I did notice, when Bill finally clicked the Tardis was bigger on the inside the exchange between the Doctor and Nardole 'That took a while' implies they are a well oiled team and may have invited a few others into the Tardis before Bill... *Cough* Gap for lots of Big Finish stories *Cough*

Also to nerd out, I suppose there's no reason to suppose the Daleks/Movellan war ended with Destiny of the Daleks. They may not have featured in subsequent stories, but it doesn't mean they aren't out their, somewhere, getting their dreadlocks in a twist ...

It was exactly what I hoped it would be - a great reintroduction for Doctor Who for any newbies but also for those of us who have waited 16 months for the weekly series to return. Twelve got a kick up the arse to start adventuring and I was right there with him feeling the excitement and the wonder. It was never meant to be groundbreaking, or be epic,I don't think they're valid complaints - it was a Smith & Jones-like soft restart for the show, seeing a snapshot of the universe of Doctor Who through the eyes of a new companion. Bill was well played by Pearl and had a great dynamic straight off with Capaldi. Nadole was, again, fantastic and adds heart and an outlet for humour that might not be in this Doctor's area. It's as well rounded a TARDIS team as we've had in a long while. I actually welled up a bit when Bill entered the TARDIS and he explained the acronym, then saying "You'll be safe here, and always will be". Just gorgeous. Steven's writing, Peter's perfomance, Murray's superlative Am I A Good Man theme....I was in heaven for that whole wee scene. What's in the vault? Who did he make the promise to, to remain earthbound and why? These may well be part of an arc but unlike the hybrid chatter often did, the small asides didn't feel tacked on - it just felt like Twelve and Nardole chatting away. Oh, and loved that the Movellans were just window-dressing. Tell us again DB how using them will alienate audiences. I just watched it with my other half who wouldn't know Destiny Of The Daleks from a hole in the ground (or a puddle) and it seemed to work great Just a lovely little opener. Oh...and JOHN SIMM HAS A MASTER BEARD. How did that not leak?

Definitely the best "Jumping On Point" since "Rose". Basically a love story with some great window dressing; simple plot elevated by some excellent acting/directing. I like Bill too. Some of the early scenes with her and the Doctor in the University were my favourite parts. And the arc seems to be well-done too so far.
I didn't like how they brought up the memory wipe thing again (it hearkens back to Hellbent, Clara and what still feels like an unfair dig on Series 4), and they couldn't resist some meta banter round the middle, but those are just a couple niggles in an otherwise very enjoyable episode.

It's the Daily Fail - if it's not Princess Diana, the Tories or new ways to punish immigrants or the poor, they hate it. Best ignored and not discussed.
