I can't see that it would be at all reasonable to delay any of these Lovecraft projects just on the basis that somebody might be offended by his offensive views that are being tackled. But as far as BF is concerned, you know how superficial some BF fans are, let alone DW fans in general ('CDs temporarily delayed? I'm sorry that BF is closing down'), so there's a danger if it came out on time it might be percieved (wrongly) as cashing-in on current events. I think it is less that people would be offended and more an acknowledgement & respect of a moment in history when they have a Doctor Who audio featuring a true life character who was a racist. We will get our monthly Doctor Who fix, so if it comes the second week of the month or the last, does it really effect anyone's life?

Back in the day, when a news event made something billed for broadcast problematic, such as mirroring real life events, the BBC used to just juggle the schedule of the affected programme around a bit, or slip in a repeat. A voice-over would follow on the end credits: "That was a replacement for the advertised programme/episode, which will be shown at a later date".I would have thought a swap in the release schedule would do no harm. Perhaps its just that the printed copies are running understandably late?

Perhaps its just that the printed copies are running understandably late? I don't think a switch out would be the worst thing in the world either. I'm sure there are those on this board & elsewhere who might disagree. And I'll mention this again, with the warehouse working through a backlog on a release month by release month basis, I don't see what difference a disc coming late into the warehouse would make. Plus as they have shown these past several months that it doesn't seem to be a problem on their end releasing the download before dispatching the physical copies. Or it could be nothing we've mentioned at all.

Remember BF said they don't get involved in these sort of things. They're not allowed. That's why they did nothing on Blackout Tuesday.

Sometimes what you don’t say, says what you would like to but as I noted above, it could be something totally unrelated. All we have is a release with a historical figure who had some pretty racist views coming out during a period where protests over racism are happening around the world. I don’t think anyone who ascribe anything malicious from Big Finish. Just awkward timing.

Let's also not rule out that it could be perfectly mundane. Suppose the person assigned to do the music or sound engineering or [insert technical job here] had a death in the family or was in a car accident or caught COVID and was unable to work on it for a spell, and nobody else was available either due to inability to work from home or being tied up on other projects. Yes it's still weird that they haven't even mentioned the possibility of delay this late in the month, but a completely non-conspiratorial explanation is still entirely plausible.

Except we know it is done. Nick mentioned in a podcast a couple of weeks ago that it would probably be coming out the following week. Plus they did the 15 minute tease of it a couple of weeks ago. But as you note, and as I have also a couple of times upthread, it could well be something we know nothing about. Plus of course it isn’t late yet either. They still have until Tuesday for it to be a June release.

In this case, I don't know. If they are recording 2 or 3 podcasts at a time the release schedule could have easily changed or he could have been confused as he was last week about information that he wasn't sure had been announced yet or not. I personally think someone looked at was going on and thought putting a little distance between this particular release and those events occurring wasn't the worst idea in the world. I could of course be totally wrong.

The delay (if it proves to be one) feels like a couple weeks spent combing through the content of the audio drama. Making sure that the themes and ideas it discusses are given due diligence for the current social climate.

If they're going through the effort to content-check the audio, they could also be going the HBO Max/ Gone with The Wind route and be recording some sort of disclaimer or new Behind The Scenes interviews/ material to address the matter.

Yeah, that'd be good. I can remember the content disclaimers for Real Time when it came out, so that seems like a no-brainer. More behind-the-scenes material is a bit more difficult (scheduling, etc.), but appreciated as a listener if they can do it.

Episodes 3 or 4 through 6 on the old BBC website had something for the levels of violence that turned up in the latter half of the story: The illustrations themselves aren't particularly rough (vignettes at most, from memory), but the production audio for the Cyber-violence doesn't shy away from the more gruesome aspects of the Cybermen. It was a good call, all things considered, and didn't detract from viewing/listening.

Anyone taking bets on this being out before Jekyll and Hyde? Given the first set was a mess, this is an instant pass for me.
