I listened to Damaged Goods earlier in the week and one of the things that struck me was how generally competent Chris and Roz were. The Doctor assigns them tasks that he would normally handle himself, with the understanding that they'll complete them to his satisfaction.
That got me thinking, who was the most competent TARDIS team, capable of completing the widest variety of tasks most successfully?
Chris and Roz and Martha and Jack are contenders. Ace and Benny too. I'm not very familiar with the comics or the 8th Doctor novels. Is there anyone in there who might fit the bill?

I think the BF crowded tardis team of Nissa, Tegan & Turlough are a very competent team.

I'd really enjoy that. Do we know if Big Finish's license covers that or were they just able to use them in novel adaptations?

She's one of my absolute favorite companions and I am always happy to hear her but it's nice for a change-up and I would really love to see what Big Finish could do with Chris and Roz's characters.

I'd say 12 and Clara. They had a mutual respect unlike any other Doctor-companion duo since 4 and Romana.

I had the same thought after the original post. By the time we get to Warrior's Gate, she's practically the Doctor in miniature.

I'd include Second Doctor and Jamie in there too.

For me too. It could be argued - especially amongst the writers - that with K-9 on board as well, this TARDIS team were almost too competent. I still love that line-up though.

I'd say even before that - if you watched The Horns Of Nimon as a newbie with no concept of Doctor Who, you'd think Romana was the hero and The Doctor her bumbling sidekick more concerned with the dog.

And I'm not sure you'd be wrong... I think a comedy story with an early Romana II and K-9 could work, where they're trying to do something outside of their comfort zone, like renting a car or going grocery shopping.

There's enough material there for a whole spin-off series surely?

Barbara-Ian-First, perhaps. It was generally before the female companion falls over and/or wanders off stupidly trope. It was generally before the Doctor miscalculates or doesn't pay attention, moving the plot on trope. Ian was your stereotypical manly-man and Barbara your "iron lady", if you will. Basically, everyone was competent, mature, and kept their heads on. Effective.
Susan was the only one often written as a weak link when it was the four of them, and that wasn't necessarily all of the time.
I'd also say:
Romana-Four
Shaw-Three
Ave-Seven or Ace-BF Benny-Seven or Ace-Hex-Seven. Though, I do note, there is quite the tendency to have Seven take on too many plots at once and make a major mistake before fixing it.

Depends where the rights for the characters lie. Didn't Big Finish use Chris in their printed short story collections once or twice?

As far as overall universe saving, I'd say Four/Romana II/K-9 is the team you'd want. If we're talking going to war against Daleks or Cybermen or something like that, Nine/Rose/Jack is what comes to mind. As for saving the universe on an individual level, one person at a time, I'd have to go with Ten/Donna as I always found them to be a particularly compassionate TARDIS team.
However, the ultimate save the day team is undoubtedly the group Ten assembles in "The Stolen Earth/Journey's End" - Ten/Jack/Rose/Martha/Donna/Sarah Jane/K-9/Mickey and a bit of Jackie and Gwen/Ianto for good measure. The universe would be in good hands.
