If only they could exercise the same caution when they give Doctor Who Magazine an “exclusive”!
I agree with @thelonecenturion, though, they’ll be wanting people to actually listen to the podcast. Presumably their listening figures and engagement are at a bit of a disconnect compared to the discussion that stems from someone summarising the podcast. And as always with these things, interpretation is key, and I know there’s been a couple of cases where I’ve listened to the podcast and don’t think anything of a specific exchange, but the way it’s written / interpreted and it comes across much worse.

Listen to the podcast? No thanks!!! I'm quite happy getting the bite-sized bits of news from it here... For what it's worth, I think it's worth listening to the podcast. Drama teases have on occasion won me over with a release I wouldn't otherwise get! It's the ego-centric waffling that I can't put up with... the Big Finish podcast is also too long, a good podcast needs to be concise and cover the points it needs to without all of the ramblings and divergences.
Fortunately, the best bits from the BF podcast get posted here, so happy days...

If they think this is a problem surely there's a way of stopping people from downloading it early? It's the ego-centric waffling that I can't put up with. They did cut out a lot of the Death to the Daleks stuff... And it's certainly a quicker listen nowadays than the multi-hour epics they did back in the day!

Yes so true, really off-putting. It's almost as if they don't know people actually listen & its an inane chat between two friends that happened to be recorded.

i just wish they read more listeners emails even if its just an extra email ( bumping from 3 emails to 4) though generally i do enjoy the podcast

Some are conversational but podcasters must always be mindful of the audience.

I for one loved the tangent filled podcasts. They felt less like something designed to just try and sell me stuff and more like two friends having fun. With business stuff shoehorned in. I seem to recall it was Jason who told Nick to pare the thing down. To me it is much more corporate now. The quirks emerge but for the most part it just seems a little forced and much more boring.

I don’t listen much now, I loved the chatter much more interesting than, the oh is that a 5 star review of a release I heard a month or two ago…… and the marketing department putting a ban on anything up and coming……I don’t get the logic, most stuff leaks long before an official announcement why not tease any more……. i long for the days of crisp-gate and the man in the fridge……..

Am i the only one who thinks that calling the Review segment The "Good Review Guide" kinda off putting and especially with Benji saying that they search for all the Positive Review to help recommend them for the listener? i think i would only want to hear reviews which offer both Good and Negative points at least then it would interest me in making my own opinion rather than just being spoon fed why this release is so wonderful it just comes across as very Corporate

Somehow I feel much like the Dark Shadows range, the next series of Torchwood is going to be in limbo for a while.

I can understand people writing positive reviews in order for their website/blog to get a mention on the Big Finish podcast. I can't say I quite embrace the ethics though, of writing only positive things purely to get that kind of publicity. It sounds a little like a mutual back-slapping society that doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the product.
