However and even more frustratingly Nick didn't answer the question if Frobisher wasn't coming back just basically abandoned the question to move onto the next email I've just listened to this, and it sounds like there's a clumsy edit.
Nick goes off on a tangent (they brought back crisps before Frobisher?) and then Benji tries to get things back on target - but not by referring back to the email, but by starting another one. Then he breaks off and immediately starts off on the new email again, but louder. So, maybe something was said there?
Here's hoping for more Frobisher, maybe a recast, who knows? I think that strategically they made a mistake back in the day by making the stories Frobisher-centric and sticking them off to one side. Just having Frobisher as a companion alongside Peri, in stories that aren't necessarily Whifferdilly by design, would be a better way to go, I think.

Also, at around 31:46, after Benji says he loves Frobisher, Nick very quietly says "well, me too". Perhaps there are plans...

Well i guess the thing about having a shapeshifting companion is that other options for voices

Just caught up with this weeks
Lisa Bowerman has had a brush with COVID (but she's getting better) so that maybe why there's currently no news on new Bernice Summerfield.

I'm sorry, did they unironically say on the podcast, in speaking of the Blake's 7 release they were discussing, that it was decided to use an Indian accent for a villain character to introduce a sense of "other"?
Here's me wondering how that's not racist.
Did I misunderstand what was said?

Here's me wondering how that's not racist. Did I misunderstand what was said? Well, to use an Indian actor to use an Indian accent, but yes - that is what was said. Lisa Bowerman wanted a sense of "otherness" so asked the cast if they would be comfortable with that and they all said yes...when its a paid job and they are looking for work.. Maybe I am reading it wrong too but I kinda feel like if you have to ask "would you be OK with this or is it..I dunno....racist?" - you probably should know the answer!

Does the actor in question normally speak with an Indian accent? I didn't get that sense. If it's the actor's normal accent, that's one thing, but if it's put on for effect, that strikes me as something that maybe shouldn't be done - at least for the purpose cited in the podcast.

I assume the actor does not speak normally in an Indian accent, at least in public*, or would not need to be asked. And yes, even "otherness" is a very old fashioned term used to describe the fear of the unlike, the foreign. It is such a weird piece for Lisa to say and for whomever edited it to include. * I say "in public" as our very own new Doctor has a Scottish accent when he is home with his family but a more African lilted English one when in "work" mode. Bit like Barrowman. Can you envision RTD askin him to do a full-on Rwandan accent as The Doctor as it would help establish "otherness"?

Hold on specific to the Blake's 7 point the Amagons in the TV EP were played by Indian-British Actors so the Casting is in keeping with established continuity.

Regards mark687 The ethnicity of the actors in the cast is not at question, but the stated (in the podcast) use of an Indian accent to create a sense of "the other". In the original Blake's 7 episode in which an Amagon appeared, the actor playing Tarvin did not speak with an Indian accent at all, but a British accent.

I know B7 pretty well havin seen it countless times. But if BF were to do a Lost Story of a redux Talons should someone like John Bennett play Li Sen Chang because of "established continuity"? You make the drama in a time and place. That was then, this is now. Marc Zuber was indeed from India but spoke with a more British accent than I do in B7! But in 2022, Lisa did not say "to fit in with continuity", she said "to have a sense of otherness". And the continuity issue is non-existent anyway. Why would all Amagons need to sound like a subcontinent of Earth?

Or is it the use of the term other now viewed as automatically offensive? Would the term Vocally Diverse have been appropriate? Regards mark687

The casting isn't what was being questioned, Mark.
It was the fact that the actor playing an Amagon was asked to use an Indian accent to convey a sense of otherness, ie not one of us. That struck me as a racist use of an ethnic accent, which is why I raised the question.
I don't know how else to say it.

For a sense of "otherness" why not just play with vocals in post - slight tweaking of the pitch, add some effects processing, sure it would take a little more time, but less likely to be questioned. And, I'm not trying to suggest a monster style sound - slight processing and tweaking of the pitch would still sound human but avoid the use of an Indian accent (or any other accent) in this manner.

No, not at all. I love Lisa Bowerman. But I'm surprised that she thought this was a good way to portray a villain.
