A sobering note to end the week on. Time for a classic DVD methinks...

What a week, indeed. With sympathy to her family and friends. What fabulous stories Deborah Watling appeared in, and so well played even if the writing of the character was often quite traditional. Would the wonderful 'monster season' have been so famous without her to show through Victoria just how scary those monsters were? And we can now see much of her 'Doctor Who' legacy again after many years 'lost' to view; she was a vital part of a very great team in one classic adventure after another. (Maybe they heard "Second Doctor's Companion" and confused it ?)

What a shame. She was always one of my favorite companions.

I saw her at a convention a few years back. She really impressed me. I wasn't as familiar with her era at the time, and I was expecting this old fuddy-duddy, but she was a firecracker! Just an engaging speaker and she radiated warmth. She just seemed so happy to be around her fans.
The chair of the con just posted on that she had been like a mom to the staff. Just a class act and a great lady.

I also got to meet her at a con but unlike Josh the 2nd Doctor era was my favorite so at the time of meeting her I was a bit star struck but she was just so lovely and gracious.
This is just so terribly sad and unexpected. She was still so young.

How very sad. She was such a lovely lady and has been taken far, far too soon.
My thoughts are with her family and friends.

As part of my "all doctors in order" listen through I've just recently listened to The Black Hole and the Story of Extinction.
Such a sad thought that those are the last stories we'll ever here from her, but Story of Extinction makes a very poignant note to end her tale upon.
Another candle in the firmament of stars snuffed out to soon. Farewell sweet Victoria.

That's so sad. I loved Victoria, and Deborah Watling played her so well.

(Don't know why they keep reffering to her as "Second Ever Companion" though)
They probably mixed up Victoria and Vikki. Vikki was the first companion to join after An Unearthly Child.

I think it might be confusion between 'companion of the Second Doctor' and 'Second Doctor's companion' - either way, it hardly matters (As an old colleague of mine used to say, the only thing you can believe in a newspaper is the date - and that's only true for a day!)
So sad about Debbie - I have fond memories of meeting her when she came to do a signing at the Who Shop in the early nineties (I knew the owners at the time). I think it was for the VHS release of the newly rediscovered 'Tomb of the Cybermen'. She was lots of fun, posing with us all in costume outside the shop. Happy days.

Dear Debbie! It was lovely meeting you at 'Doctor Who' conventions. The times I've met you have been happy ones and I always enjoyed you as Victoria in 'Doctor Who' in the TV stories and Big Finish audios. Many thanks! See you soon. RIP! Love from Tim. x
