Yes Yessongs (an immortal progressive rock classic) and Elton John A Single Man (been awhile, I'd forgotten it's such a pretty album).

Still indulging my affection for Yes with Keystudio, Masterworks Live 2000, and Heaven and Earth. Also still on kind of a Beatles solo kick with George's self-titled album and Paul's Ram. I swear there is more than one thing on Ram that still gives me goosebumps.

A mini-marathon of Jethro Tull with Thick As A Brick, Stand Up and Warchild. .I've been buying the limited edition Tull boxsets as they come out and they're the audio equivalent of the Who classic Bluray collection. Just stunning. Up to A now, with Broadsword coming next year. All in 3, 4 or 5 CD sets in a hardbound book with a DVD featuring multiple mixes, live performances, outtakes (sometimes more than the album, effectively "lost" Tull records, singles, EPs. A real treasure. With the main course being the new remixes from Steven Wilson who is the master of remixing without losing the original feel of the album. He just gives more separatation for the instruments. Aqualung sounds so much clearer now, for one. Songs From The Wood is just breathtaking too.

Yeah, it's been quite big news in the prog world (not that that is the only thing Tull do but hey) this week. Ian's voice ain't what it was and he gets a second singer on stage for a lot of older songs live now. But writing material for the voice he has now should ensure that's alll fine. There will, of course, be fans who won't get on board as they see this as just Ian using the Tull name for his own band -and...he has worked with all the members of this lineup in his solo work so it's not an unfair point. Yet frankly some will just never accept Tull without Martin Barre. Just as 25 years on some still don't accept Steve Morse replacing Richie Blackmore in Deep Purple. Their losses.

Marillion - Script For A Jester's Tear
From the deluxe boxset, 4CDs and a bluray. Stacked - New 5.1 mix, the live Script concert film, the videos, the Market Square Hero EP, demos, live tracks, 100 page book - and a 90 minute making of the album taking the band from the earliest pub gigs pre-Fish, Rothery or Kelly up to being ready to play big gigs all over Europe with the Fugazi album (which is also getting a 4disc, 1 blu box next month)

Gentle Giant - Free Hand
Probably the most accessible album they made (which still isn't exactly THAT accessible) - this is the new Steven Wilson remix. We're getting The Missing Piece and Interview next, Derek Schulman has already confirmed Steven is doing those.
Damn shame the multi-tracks have been lost for the first 3 records as it'd be great to get them all remixed by the great SW. His work on the Tull catalogue, the Marillion he did, the Yes ones...he's just fantastic. Never changes the album but finds a way to freshen it up. Separating a lot of muddiness. Aqualung for one sounds like a new album since he remixed it.

Burn by Lisa Gerrard & Jules Maxwell.
Lisa Gerrard, who has contributed to more film scores than I realised - all of them wonderful - as well as her long service with Dead Can Dance, joins electronic musician Jules Maxwell for a genuinely mesmeric, sweeping album which, at 35 minutes, leaves me crying out for more. Incredible music.

Yngwie Malmsteen "The Seventh Sign". He has about 22 studio albums now (latest one was released last month). I have the 1st 8 and the last 4-5.. There is a big gap from the mid 90's to earlyish- mid 2000's when he didn't have an Australian distribution deal so I am missing a good 5-10 cds. I don't fancy paying over AUST$60 for a cd ggrrr.. Been a fan since the 3rd album aptly titled "Trilogy" released in 1986, I discovered him in 1988 through my best mate.. His dad was a music teacher, he just shook his head when he heard him, he knew what the deal was . HAHA

I listened to a bunch of stuff yesterday - Queen The Game, Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same, Robert Plant The Principle of Moments and Bowie's first album, David Bowie from 1967 (what can I say? I LIKE it!)
Maybe if I beat myself lovingly over the head with a loaf of French bread a few times the other two will come back to me?
Oh, Pink Floyd's first album Piper At The Gates of Dawn and Rush A Farewell To Kings. "Xan-a-doooooo". :-)
