Just finishing off part 4 (or is that 8?...) & have to say that I rather enjoyed that box! I don't know if I'd say that it's the best 'Torchwood' box that BF have ever done, but I still rather enjoyed it! 'Zero Hour' was probably my favourite of the set with 'The Empty Hand' coming second. Not going to lie {Spoiler} Yvonne Hartman's return is certainly going to be interesting!

In Spoilers as requested Solid maybe a bit self-indulgent in favour of character development and side-tracks rather then plot advancement The old hands do well practically well Tom Price is the star who'd thought PC Andy would have had such character development ? YH is back as an RTD story suggestion, as I say though there's a lot of Story ground for Part 3 to cover. Regards mark687

I've just finished Love Rat... I know that some people have an issue with the TV episode Day One (the Series One episode, not Children of Earth). With what I understand their issues are with that episode (I personally don't mind it), I have the same feelings about Love Rat. Yes, Torchwood is adult Doctor Who as it were, but I really do not need to have a shed load of sexual content thrown in to believe it. I had a similar issue with the first Aliens Among Us box set - the sex scenes/references all felt very frivolous, as if to say, "Hey look, we can do this because it's Torchwood". I wouldn't say that I necessarily didn't enjoy this episode (the ending was particularly gripping and suspenseful), but this overuse of sex is really starting to get a little wearisome. I do hope it gets turned down a bit in future releases, as I never felt even the TV show went this far with it. (This is, of course, just my opinion I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't have the slightest issue with this, and that's fine ) Have they really gone that overboard ? Ofcourse the show did have a comsiderable amount of adult content. Maybe not overboard exactly, but it feels like some of it's there simply because it can be, and I'm not of fan of 'We should do this because we can", I like there to be a very tangible reason, and while it's actually very important to the plot of this episode... it still feels excess and unnecessary to me Like I said though, that's just my take on it, and nobody else seems to be voicing any concerns so far so I'm assuming I'm in the minority anyway

I just finished this and it was great! {Spoiler} Very confused and very excited about that ending, I can't wait to see how they're going to explain it. Maybe that Cyberman wasn't really Yvonne and she escaped?

I see your point here. I too am not for unnecessary sex and violence, however I’ll reserve my judgement until i’ve listened to it I must though ensure I use headphones and not speakers, now that you’ve given this feedback 😉

Maybe that Cyberman wasn't really Yvonne and she escaped? oh god’ I hope not. I feel that would cheapen that whole scene and it still sends shivers down my back, hearing her say those words! I feel it’s going to be something really sick & twisted clearly something to do with The Committee maybe Or maybe she’s Time Travelled with the help of Bilis Manger For Queen And Country... TommyP

I really enjoyed the first boxset, but this easily blew that one out of the water! And that ending! YES!

A View to Kill reminded me a bit of the Torchwood novel SkyPoint, which turned into a base under siege in a plush apartment complex. Torchwood was drawn there by people vanishing as well.

The unexpected characters keep on coming. Who will Part 4 see the surprise return of? Owen and Tosh?

This Gwen thing really needs to be addressed. All we know is that something has taken over her body and buried her personality, leaving Gwen a spectator to Not Gwen's actions. At least Jack and Rhys are aware that something is up.

At least Jack and Rhys are aware that something is up. {Spoiler} Yeah, if I had one complaint of the series as a whole it would be lack of Eve Myles. I'm sure it'll all lead to a satisfying conclusion that will be worth the wait but that doesn't stop me wanting more Gwen. I'm slightly worried that it's because Eve Myles wants to do less at Big Finish/is too busy because there hasn't been a Torchwood with real Gwen as a major character since November last year.
I was also wondering which Gwen is in the Titan comic series because Gwen and Ng look the same so it could be either (unless I'm missing something).

Love Rat was almost a fun parody of that early TW obsession with casual sex scenes in inappropriate situations. I thought it was quite funny kicking the box set off with Jack being audibly *ahem* entered with running commentary. For better or worse, a story that uses strong sex as a narrative device is very much in the TW mould. Remember that alien that lived off the energy of the, ummm, male climax in Series 1? We're back in that wheelhouse here.
I was a bit surprised how this boxset just....starts. I suppose being the second set in the three we're essentially getting Eps 5-8 of Series 5 but wheras each Doom Coalition or Unit box kinda does its best to re-establish the status quo, this one is pretty reliant on your knowledge, and memories, of the last box. That's fine for me - would jar a bit to introduce the characters again only 2 months on but it's quite a new way of doing things from the way BF normally do where you'd be caught up to speed a bit more to refresh/catch you up. Essentially this really is one big season with 3 divides in it more than it is 3 separate box sets.

Yes, but my point being Doom Coalition was a "series" too, but each box is somewhat of a fresh start. This, very much, is the next batch of episodes and wouldn't make any kind of concession if you're not up to speed. There's no "here's who Orr is, in case you forgot or didn't listen to the last box" kind of hand-holding. Outside of Bloodlust it's something a bit different for BF's box sets.

At least Jack and Rhys are aware that something is up. It will be, but this is us mid-season. Gwen's situation is surely the season arc and will come to the fore in the final(e) set, you'd think. I quite like it in a slightly meta-way that Eve went on that Twitter rant one night saying she was done with TW and we've ended up with a replacement Gwen.

Thus Aliens Among Us being labeled Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3, rather than just 1, 2, 3 and 4? On the other hand, only people who far-too-closely follow Big Finish, and the daily news stories, would catch the difference.

It does seem to give it a certain sense of forward momentum - and they may have done a good job getting the timing right for it to work as a multi-parter since I didn't have any sense of wanting to go back to the first one just to review where we are now with the story. We were just picking up where we left off last time as if I'd just listened to Part 1 last week. Honestly I think Big Finish has been so good about trying to make things as stand-alone as possible for listeners that I'm happy to see them get to do a thing or two that are a little less so.
