I might have missed something, but just what is the point of the Tenth Doctor Chronicles when Big Finish are producing Tenth Doctor Adventures with David Tennant? Why are these needed? I understand Big Finish need to do stories from the new series and make the most of their licence, but these stories are not filling a gap caused by an actor not being available to Big Finish as we already have Tenth Doctor stories featuring the actor who played the Tenth Doctor! So personally, I can't see any reason for them.

Tennant is gonna work for them very sporadically....they're making hay while the sun shines. Good luck to them.

I'm slightly thrown by people describing this as a 'recast'. It's not - any more than John Leeson reading an audiobook of the Invisble Enemy is a recast fourth Doctor.

Because in this instance its someone completely outside the series doing it.
If it was John B, Camille. Alex K, Catherine ect doing the narration I'd probably consider buying them.
Also as I said earlier he's just off enough for me not to buy into the impression (as was Nick's 9th)

For me, sporadic Tenth Doctor Adventures with David Tennant are way better than Tenth Doctor stories with somebody else pretending to be him. Just because you can, doesn't mean you always should.

Watching the video he does have the voices down. So I may give it a chance, its just a bit disconcerting that he is outside the series coming in to do it. But lets see what happens
Has he ever done the Eighth Doctor?

That doesn't really answer the distinction I'm making. This is no more of a recast than, say, David Tennant reading a Who audiobook and reading Rose's lines. Elliot Chapman is unequivocally a recast of Ben. He's only playing that part, he's not narrating. He's literally replacing one specific actor. In this Jake Dudman is reading a story and doing all bar one of the voices. He's narrating an audiobook and that entails playing multiple parts. One of them happens to be the Doctor, and he happens to be really good. But it's by no means all he's doing. If that doesn't appeal, that's fair enough, but it doesn't make it a recast.

But Mr Craze and Mr Pertwee are no longer with us, so recast them by all means, Messers Smith and Tennant are still with us, Tennant actually is working with you, (and with due respect to Mr Dudman, I think his 10th sounds more like Michael Crawford in his well known sitcom role)
I apologise if people find my view confrontational it wasn't meant to be.

Oh, don't find it cofrontational, I appreciate that people have different tastes. I just don't think it answers my point. It's not a recast.

So with David Tennant not willing to work as often as BF want him and Smith having no interest in audio just now....what's the alternative? This. BF pay for a licence for New-Who. Simply waiting for Tennant or Smith? That's a waste of time and money. It's this or next to nothing if you want it to be only the original Doctor actor in the role.

Ok I'll consider it a interpretation and reading by someone who happens to be known for impressions of the principal Actors.

i just don't get what all the fuss is about.......
the BBC are getting ever more random and unsuitable actors to read their doctor who audio books. jon culshaw has read loads of bbc 3rd & 4th doctor books we don't cry foul and say tom bakers still alive how dare he read it!
whats different here.......these are audio books with multi voices....
not recast for audio drama, i liked the 9th doctor box, Nicks a good reader and does an ok approximation of the 9th doctor, these are Jackanory for doctor who fans.
i like the idea of casting someone who can do a good impression but it is important that they can narrate a story......and to be honest not all the companions did a good job of that!
if the guys at BF Towers think he is up to the job, that ok with me.
i am looking forward to these now more that nicks not doing them, the more new series stuff we can get along side everything classic is good with me.

Carry on with Classic output and wait increase MR and 4DA output, even more 8th Doc or Classic CC's/EA's maybe and just have 1 or 2 full-cast New Series products a year rather then tenuously linked material. Time is in favour of post 2005 material having a longer future all in all.

How do you know how much time is in favour though Mark? The licence has a few more years left. Not a single guarantee beyond that. And even then....who's to say Tennant will do more than a boxset every couple of years, or that Smith will ever sign on at all? Why would BF pay what is surely a premium for the new series licence only to then not use the title character? I'm with the earlier posters that say if it's a good story, I'm for it. Jake narrating will be as jarring as Tim Treolar's I'm sure - and that worked so well fans actually complained about the narration saying he should just be playing The Doctor anyway. Sure, casting Pertwee isn't an option so it's not an exact comparison but then neither is forcing busy successful actors like the new series Doctors to work the same schedule as - with all due respect - more jobbing actors like McCoy and Colin who have never been as in-demand as Tennant or Smith. Again, it's this or nothing. I'll take something - and be open minded to a new idea - rather than have zilch.

This "but at least they were a part of the show at the time.." thing doesn't wash with me. That doesn't make the performance better because they knew the actor off-screen. Besides, unless I'm reading this all wrong we'll still get other "original" cast members along for the ride too as we have with sets like Churchill or the Ninth Doctor. Again, when it's a choice between this or nothing it's a rather easy choice for me as long as the stories are worth telling and told well and I can't judge that without hearing them first.

To be blunt I meant Actor life expectancy , while we've got the proper Actors we should use them. These Chronicles as they are I don't feel are necessary, but that's only my opinion.

Is there any reason you shouldn't in this case though? I mean, if there are people who are going to enjoy this... I think it's easy to confuse 'I'm not interested in/keen on this idea' with 'this shouldn't be done'.

I'm slightly thrown by people describing this as a 'recast'. It's not - any more than John Leeson reading an audiobook of the Invisble Enemy is a recast fourth Doctor. Well, I'll say my initial apprehension is because I thought Nick was still narrating and Jake was just voicing the Doctor. The second I saw he was narrating, that apprehension went away.

I liked the 9th doctor set and I thought Nick does a good 9th reading. wasn't as interested in the other 2 at the time but I am more so now that we know it will be Jake D. reading them. I think his 11 is pretty good so I will get that. His 10th I don't find as convincing yet, would also like to know more about the stories and other characters first.
I don't see much difference between these and the BBC audios, sometimes they are read by someone with a connection to Doctor Who, sometimes not. Of course I would prefer to hear Capaldi himself, but the readers do a fine job and I like hearing new stories with the character.
Or for that matter, the subscriber short trips with Stephen Critchlow...he's been everyone at this point. I look forward to hearing how he'll portay various characters. Also a great actor in general, heard him in a radio play yesterday.
