I think the story details are new on the site? I keep seeing stuff on the Survivors pages and not knowing if I missed an announcement or forgot I'd seen it or if there just wasn't much of a fuss made. Anyway, some interesting stuff - Louise Jameson returning (which we already knew but anyways) which is great, I've missed her not being in the last few series, and some stories seemingly set after the TV series, which is something I've wanted for a long time, plus post-TV Abby and Jenny! I'm interested to see how Greg and Daniel will fit into this series - it sounds like the set is all set after TV series 3 and... well if you've heard previous audio series you'll know what happened to Daniel, so flashback stories? Seems odd to go post-TV series only to then tell stories earlier in the timeline... sorry for my ramblings, I just really love this series and could talk about it for ages (in fact... are there any Survivors podcasts? ). I've reviewed all of the big finish survivors stories. But not seen the tv show

Very quiet on release date. Assume this week, but ....
I was wondering whether Nick perhaps didn't get the music done in time (as per the podcast) but I see tin dog has his review copy so I guess that's not it.

7.1 Wrenching, just wrenching. I’ll admit I’m a little disappointed that they copped out at the end, but oh what a hard episode to hear! 7.2 Struggled a bit with this one. There was nothing wrong with the story at all, in fact I thought it was an interesting new direction. No complaints about the characters or acting either.
What I struggle with is the ‘story told in flashback’ format. I find it lazy when you see it on TV, but the problem on audio (for me, at least) is that it makes it a little challenging to follow when you’re switching back and forth between timeframes. On TV you can make it clearer with visual cues—camera filters, differing hairstyles, visible injuries, etc.—but here on audio it’s often just one scene ends and the next is in the other timeframe. Bit of a nuisance, IMO.
One thing... Jenny weepily wondering what she could possibly have done to push Greg away...I can’t remember the last time I scoffed so hard. I don’t know how TV Jenny was written/acted, but she was always unbearable to Greg in the audio series. Can’t stand the character, and this stuck out like a sore thumb to me.

'Old Friends' is so good, devastatingly so, but definitely my favourite of the set - and oddly with only one (recast) original Survivor in it. Lovely to hear John Banks back as Daniel. I was lucky enough to review it for IndieMacUser. What I'm wondering is quite where the series goes now. Is that it for Greg if we're post-Series 3 on the tele. David Richardson has mentioned in a couple of interviews that he wants to continue the story of Craig (George Watson) from Series 6's 'The Trapping Pit', but other than that we need some more male characters... {Spoiler} Otherwise it's the Abby/Jenny/Ruth/Jackie/Evelyn show (not that that is a bad thing!)

Now, more than ever, BF need to get the rights to use Charles Vaughan ....

7.3 Kind of beautiful. Absolutely crushing. Louise Jameson, Helen Goldwyn, Zoe Tapper, and John Banks absolutely knocked Matt Fitton’s script out of the park. In a range with so many great titles and box sets, this is definitely a standout in my books. I honestly don’t know if I can pick one single revelation or trauma expressed in this one that is the hardest-hitting. 7.4 This missed the mark a little bit, for me. Lots of good ideas, but something about it just didn’t quite land the way it should have.
Abby, perhaps, should have been left alone after the events of 7.1, to be revisited later. If they had to bring her back in this set, I appreciate Jenny coming onto her as a bit of a drunken wreck, but wow did she ever get over it quickly.
Jenny’s solo road trip seemed a little out of character, but I can let that slide if we’re looking at it from a POV of her being inspired by Greg’s life. But that’s (narratively/thematically) undercut by the implication that she’s thinking of going to Scotland to hook up with this Alec guy.
Racist Scots is...a bit foreign to me as someone from the other side of the Atlantic. But I think it might’ve been better served if they’d been given a villainous starring role for a whole story rather than turning up halfway through an episode already marred by some of the issues already mentioned above. Overall: another excellent set of stories that I’m glad to have experienced. I can’t wait to see what series 8 has in store. Hopefully a little more Louise Jameson—there’s no such thing as too much Lou.

Now, more than ever, BF need to get the rights to use Charles Vaughan .... Yes, don't they, but I wonder if that's not an option for some reason. Would it be a rights issue - he's a series 1 character like all the others they have brought on to audio. Perhaps Denis Lill is not interested in reprising the role? He was still working in 2016 apparently and appeared in a 'Midsomer Murders'. Actually, scrolling back though his imdb page - what a career!

He appeared in season 1 episode, Corn Dolly, by Jack Ronder who I think is now deceased so presumably the rights reside with his estate. If BF got in touch with his family they could maybe ask his daughter to reprise her role from the original series as well....

Yes, that's true... and he got a name check in 'Reconnection'. I was hoping for he and Abby to have a happy ending - or as near as Survivors will allow!

This was a great set for these characters. The best one since series 4 for me. I loved all the stories, but Journey's End and Old Friends were just exceptional. And as much as I love the women in this range, I agree that we need some new male characters that aren't power grabbing monsters, criminals or insane.

Journey's End.
This is a really strong start to this latest set. I still don't know whether I prefer a series of individual episodes, or a continuing story-line like Survivors 1-5. I suppose the ideal is a mixture of both, which is what we're getting! But back to this - everything about Journey's End is exceptional. The ending offers a much needed glimmer of hope for poor Abbey, who really gets put through the wringer in this story. What amazing characters we have here - and the sound design and music (which I felt was become a little too intrusive recently) is used to great effect. I never imagine such overwhelming bleakness could be so enjoyable.

It a shame that with the change of packaging to a single jewel case we have lost the individual covers and the writers notes, but hey, this set was consistently brilliant and heartbreaking, and that's all that matters really.
