George Mann Kate Orman+Jonathan Blum (said it before but their 8th Doctor novels were all fantastic, I'd certainly be keen to see them write for McGann on audio) Good suggestions, but I said, ' Can't be anyone who's already written for the franchise'. I think everyone missed that bit. Hmm. That makes it a good deal harder.

I'd love Rob Shearman to do some new Who scripts for BF. Actually, I'd just like Rob to write loads of stuff because I love his work.
But for folks who have never written for the franchise... I love Peter David's work, I'd like to know what Joe Straczynski would do with a little arc... the two regrets are that Brian Clemens and Richard Carpenter never wrote for the show.

His Spectacular Spidey and X-Factor aren't far behind. When it comes to him touching my fave franchises though? Man....I was so let down by his atrocious Star Trek: The Next Generation novel Before Dishonour. I wasn't enamoured with his New Frontier, Q or Imzadi books but Before Dishonour is just insane - Janeway becomes The Borg Queen, Borg Cubes are sentient.... If he'd not already written dozens of Trek books I'd imagine he'd never seen the show before. I'd hate for a writer I really love at his best to come on board and disappoint like that again.

I'd really like to see something from Kim Newman. He's best known for his Anno Dracula series and his early reference books with Neil Gaiman, but he also wrote Time and Relative, a novella featuring the First Doctor and Susan. He's got a knack for memorable turns of phrase and his habit of incorporating historical figures of the time within fiction would work really well with Doctor Who.

He's probably even better known - here at least - as one of the country's leading film critics for decades, especially with his work on genres sniffier critics look down upon. He used to do a great column for Empire called Video Dungeon where he sorted the wheat from the chaff of straight to video movies. Along with Mark Kermode and Mark Cousins he's my favourite writer when it comes to cinema. His novels and novellas are fantastic and so immersive. What he really excels at is taking a character we all know - Dracula, Moriarty et al - and putting a twist on them. If he could do that with the Doctor more often? It'd be a real treat. Time And Relative was far too long ago.

I really wish Big Finish would adapt the Anno Dracula novels. I think he would fit right in with the world of Doctor Who, be it Big Finish or the TV series.

You are right. His run on Hulk is THE run and I adore it and really/truly wish Marvel would get around to printing it as one of their gorgeous omnibus editions. What I've read of his stuff the past 10 years, not so much.

If the pile of books by my bed were to tip over while I was sleeping I don't know that I would wake up.
