Got my copy in the mail yesterday, not sure when I'll get a chance to read it - my back log is pretty big right now. I hear that. If the pile of books by my bed were to tip over while I was sleeping I don't know that I would wake up. Better chance my cat will try killing me by sleeping on my face - the books thankfully are either on the shelves, or on the iPad.

I'd really like to see something from Kim Newman. He's best known for his Anno Dracula series and his early reference books with Neil Gaiman, but he also wrote Time and Relative, a novella featuring the First Doctor and Susan. He's got a knack for memorable turns of phrase and his habit of incorporating historical figures of the time within fiction would work really well with Doctor Who. He's probably even better known - here at least - as one of the country's leading film critics for decades, especially with his work on genres sniffier critics look down upon. He used to do a great column for Empire called Video Dungeon where he sorted the wheat from the chaff of straight to video movies. Along with Mark Kermode and Mark Cousins he's my favourite writer when it comes to cinema. His novels and novellas are fantastic and so immersive. What he really excels at is taking a character we all know - Dracula, Moriarty et al - and putting a twist on them. If he could do that with the Doctor more often? It'd be a real treat. Time And Relative was far too long ago. I don't know what reminded me, but Jennifer Buckingham (from the War Games) gets a cameo in the second Anno Dracula book, which further illustrates his Doctor Who bona fides.

There is a new Anno Dracula novel due out soon, isn't there? That's right. Anno Dracula - One Thousand Monsters. It came out just yesterday. I'm listening to William Gaminara's reading of the original before I start it. Ordered via Book Depository this morning.

Something I may talk about, either in the John Morris NuWho thread or as its own, is just h9ow much the ability to write for Who has changed since the show came back in 05, and how the newfound critical and commercial success for the franchise as a whole ending up also shrinking opportunities.

I’d love series of Tom Baker adventures written by that era’s TV authors. Maybe 4 x 4 part stories with one story by Terrance Dicks, one by Chris Boucher, one by David Fisher and one by Andrew Smith - they could call the series “4x4x4”. I’d buy it in a flash!
