The set has been "officially" out for just over an hour now - Amazon marketplace starting at 78 quid. Ebay mostly about there, some a bit cheaper, some asking 200 quid.

My season 8 arrived today from Zoom. Both delighted and relieved, given the situation with Zoom's change of management.
I was on a work call so wasn't able to intercept the postie today. After the call I had some explaining to do again.
Wife (gesturing to three parcels): What's all this? Me: Ooh, parcels. Hopefully one of these is Season 8. Opens smallest parcel. Me: Season 8! Hugs season 8. Me: Look, isn't it beautiful? Wife: Nope. What are these other two? Me: These will be the Doctor Who things I ordered from that guy on Facebook. Wife: The guy selling because his wife wanted more space in their house? Me: Yes. Wife (muttering): If only I knew her secret... Opens second parcel. Me: Ah, no, this is some books from Candy Jar.... as is this third parcel. Wife: When did you order these? Me: .... re...cent...ly...ish. Wife: So, there is still a package to come. Me: Yes, and... Wife: And? Me: I may have ordered some books from Obverse books over the weekend. Wife: Me: And some signed Frazer Hines things. I did tell you about that one, remember? Wife: Yes. Me: As that was your fault, remember? Wife: Not my fault. Me: It was. There was that time you were at your work and just so happened Frazer Hines was there one day only you didn't tell me till he'd gone. I could have come along to meet him and get him to sign a DVD or CD or three. Or just ask him to put on his best Troughton impression and say 'that is a big one, Jamie'. Wife: Still no reason to order things now. Me: There's always a reason. Wife: Agree to disagree. Me: Main thing is Season 8 though. Isn't it gorgeous? Wife: This is one of those things you already have on DVD, yes. Me: And VHS. But this is limited edition. Pretty much sold out. Already worth more than I paid for it. Wife: Are you going to sell it? Me: Never! Some people do though. Was reading about someone bragging they'd bought 90 copies. They can probably easily double their money on that. Wife: Interesting... Me: Which is so unfair on those who just want their own copy but missed out or were too slow. Wife: When does the next one come out? Me: A few months. Why? Wife: Let's buy 200 copies! We'll be rich. Me: That's morally reprehensible. Wife: Half the profits could be used to buy more Doctor Who crap... Me: I'm listening.

I really enjoyed the new documentary for The Daemons. I think I've already mentioned how much I adore Katy Manning and it was lovely to revisit the location and see the impact that Doctor Who had 50 years later.
The Direct Route fell a little flat for me, unfortunately. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I didn't think it was all that engaging. It probably didn't help that we'd lost one of our three leads about 15 minutes in! I think a host / fan travelling around with the directors would be a good start, and perhaps a bit more emphasis on the scale of the journey they undertook in three days. They mention it a couple of times, but I didn't really get that sense they'd trekked around, so I don't really grasp the premise. It's one of those, like The Doctor's Table, where there's plenty of potential and I'd like to see another instalment with a few refinements.

Arrived today. Says how good Zoom have been over the years that getting it ON release date seems late! One thing I don't think we give enough love to - and sorry Region A buyers who don't get these included - is how amazing the new artwork is in the booklets. There's no need to go to these lengths but man...they always look great and some of the work in this booklet is the best yet. It's like garnishing an already fine meal.

They just delivered them to the real Pertwee fans first... (Even those of us currently still without a working blu-ray player!)
What superb artwork, as usual. That's my first glimpse inside because I won't even tear the shrinkwrap until I've got that new player and it's time to relive 'Terror of the Autons' once again, 50 years since Robert Holmes scared the socks off me with my very first Who!

I think ebay is your only hope now. Bollocks. Sadly people need to get in quick with these. I would also advise buying multiple copies. But I thing the overseas versions are still in stock but don't have the nice packaging.

Having skimmed through each story now, I kind of wish they had included the black and white versions as well. I totally understand how amazing it is that we have colour versions of these stories at all but on an 80 inch screen they are pretty painful on the eyes.

I do see what you mean in places though, CSO from 1971 on a large HD screen isn't always kind and often leads to colour bleeding. Part and parcel of the thing though. There's a kind of precedent with the DVD of Invasion Of The Dinosaurs having the B&W as the default and the colour as a bonus feature as the restoration of it just was too rough to sign off on and call it quits for 2E (as was) and Dan Hall.

I think this is maybe my favourite way of doing the Behind The Sofas they've found so far - two actors from the time, two from another period in classic Who and two from the modern show. All have totally different but interesting perspectives. I didn't know Sacha and Anjli were a long term couple untill watching this either. Was very cool to get Angli's perspective as someone who worked with an older Nick COurtney and Katy Manning as well as Sacha's thoughts on the original Master. Both are very, very impressed with the HAVOC teams stuntwork so shows how well that holds up.
And of course, it's not a BTS without Sarah and Janet - they're like the French and Saunders of the thing by now...occasionally the Statler and Waldorf! I love them to bits.

According to what I read on Facebook, there was some additional work on the colourisation done for the box set, the higher resolution had picked out colour bleed which they'd needed to fix.

Chris Chapman....take a bow. That doc on Uncle Terrance is just sensational. We've had kinda sad tribute docs before but this doesn't feel like the Lis Sladen one, or the JNT one, it's not rueful or maudlin (and I'm not criticising those in saying that) - it's a true celebration of TD's legacies (for they are many) and shines a light on areas of his life we won't have known about.
There are two moments that really, really got me emotional - the chip shop with Barry Letts' son where he recalled how Barry and Terrance decided to not just part after their work together ended, that they would make the time every week for each other. And then - and this is too sweet to spoil though it's an old convention fave - Rob Shearman's story of meeting him aged 14.
Frank Skinner is a fantastic guide through it all, inquisitive and open but never nosey. And any time I see how much Paul Cornell loves Terrance's classic description of Davison's Doctor as having a "pleasant, open face", it makes me happy.
A true gem and honestly if this was out from Reeltime or the like, would be worth a third of the boxset cost on it's own.

I have literally just pre-ordered the 3rd Doctor Season 8 bluray.. it gets released in Australia 26th May. The only difference with the packaging is on the back with the production and manufacturing info, "Made In Australia"..
Still need to pre order the 7th Doctor one, it still doesn't have a release date..

Still need to pre order the 7th Doctor one, it still doesn't have a release date.. I thought they were a smaller, thinner digibook box after the first few which did match the UK ones exactly? And the Aussie ones ditched the inside booklet holder that opens up into 4 velcro held panels to reveal the TARDIS after S18, or so I think. I remember Whovitt describing the changes.
