You know the score - I name a feature on this magnificent Series 24 box set and then blather on about how great it is. The latest on my list is In Conversation (a chat between Matthew Sweet and Sylvester). I've been a fan of the Seventh Doctor for 34 years, but I realise now I knew very little about the man who plays him. What a life Sylvester has had! And how modest he is about it all. Filmed inserts from the Ken Campbell Roadshow show Sylv doing all the kinds of things you might have read about over the years. It makes me realise that Doctor Who really is just a small part of this sprawling life. Magnificent. Still had zero chance to play any of mine yet. But yes, McCoy reminds me of when Caves of Androzani was on and my mam and brother were shouting upstairs to come and watch it as it was really good. I was ready for the change and more interested in my Target collection. Though I caught the last of part 4 and realised what I had been missing. Big regret there. Same with Season 26. I had stopped watching the show after S25 but got back into getting the VHS's from 1992. Watching The Hartnell Years, I was struck by how charismatic he was as his easy going self and wondered why we did not get more of him like this on the show. Alas, he had done, in S26, but I missed out again, so only found out later. They should have let him be the person they cast in the first place, in my view. I wish we had more of his improvisation and just playing himself (as they famously allowed Jon Pertwee), as seen here in a couple of outtakes:

I find Sylvester to be quite inconsistent in terms of what you get out of him - I think The Doctor’s Table on this set and some Big Finish audios show that - but he was on such fine form here. Matthew Sweet really does get the best out of his interviewees. As you say, Doctor Who is such a small part in such a varied and sprawling life.

I received an email from the biggest electrical (cds/dvds/blu rays/vinyld/PC & game consoles etc) www.jbhifi.com.au . Because I pre ordered the Season 8 3rd Doctor blu ray they asked me to do a review. It's a simple 1 line review.

I see S24 is still available at cost price from Amazon. Lack of interest for this season or have they actually produced enough to meet demand for once?
Either way I wouldn't want to be a scalper stuck with multiple copies they can't sell!

Probably less interest but I also wonder if it could be because some people are holding out for the standard editions now we know that'll be coming at some point

It's Universal who now handle Australian Who distribution, so they're the ones who are deciding not to make these, just as the US distributor decides the animations are DVD only and not bluray. I'd contact Universal in Aus, and ask if they have plans to release these sets...if not, import!

Quite an interesting visual comparison between the standard UK and Ltd Ed box sets. Nice to know that it's no longer the end of the world (quite) if you miss one as the discs are the same, but still, I know which I'd rather have.

Well, with the announcement of the changing of the guard, onto more pressing issues. The Classic Collection Blu-Ray team now have about 18 months to get as many of these out before the powers that be unveil a new logo for the 60th to appear across all branding. The race is on. Collectors when looking at their no longer quite so flush, complete sets of Seasons 1-26:
