Backtrack completely wasted the time travel tourism premise. Using the mutated fungus and its threat towards an unsuspecting planet would have been menace enough. The only way the time travel actually came into it was when the soldiers killed off the belligerent tourist, and could easily have been replaced with a sequence where the tourist bumped into the spores.

I really like the slimmer jewel case packaging of this set, I must say. Looks better than the chunkier four case sets and takes up half as much space! I wouldn’t be unhappy if more ranges were to adopt this style; I’d still be inclined to stick with the individual artwork, like Gallifrey: Time War though.

My take on these Chronicles is up at Cultbox: Enjoyable with Dudman doing a very inpressive take on the Tenth Doctor, as well as demonstrating that he's a pretty nifty narrator too.

In the midst of Last Chance by Guy Adams. He definitely is channeling his inner Douglas Adams. This is no surprise, since there was a 1989 BBC radio documentary series and an accompanying book, written and presented by Douglas Adams and Mark Carwardine called Last Chance to See. In the series, Adams and Carwardine travel to various locations in the hope of encountering species on the brink of extinction. I've read the book, but never heard the series.

I was surprised that there was no mention of Douglas Adams in the interviews after Last Chance.
Overall I enjoyed the set. Wild Pastures was a bit eerie since my aunt fractured her pelvis before Memorial Day and is in a rehab center right now. I visited her again this past weekend.

I absolutely loved it. My Doctor. And Dudman has totally nailed it! I have nothing but praise for this set He gets Ten's mannerisms and personality spot on, it almost felt like listening to a younger version of DT I'm usually wary of the part-narration format which is why I hesitated getting this at first, but I'd say he has a lovely soothing voice, and his narration was even better than his Doctor portrayal - particularly in Last Chance which was also my favourite story. He brings out the essence of the about-to-regenerate Ten perfectly. I wasn't too impressed with the trailer, but I'll happily say I've been proved wrong Volume 2 - where are you? Or rather, when are you?

Finally started this set this morning; listened to episode 1 on my way to work.
...eh. It definitely felt like a RTD-era adventure, and I was glad that the Slitheen (one of my least favourite creatures by far) were actually used in an interesting way. Unfortunately Dudman just doesn’t do it for me. I know I’ve been vocal in my displeasure at their choice to use an impersonator, but I did try very hard to ‘squint a little’ and get past it...but I couldn’t. The impression is good enough to impress on YouTube, but over the span of an hour, there’s something about it that just doesn’t click, which in turn made it hard to get through it all. I’ll try to get through the rest in the near future, and I’ll continue to ‘squint’ at the performance, but I can’t say I’m looking forward to it.
Now, that said: it’s clear from this that Dudman is a wonderfully talented voice artist, whom Big Finish should treasure and use as widely as they can get away with. Just...not as an impersonator.

Dudman certainly is very talented. I haven't listened to this release, but I, too, felt his Tenth Doctor was a bit "off" at times, when I heard him do the Tenth Doctor's voice in Tales of New Earth.

Didn’t Kieran Hodgson “play” Ten in the New Earth set? As far as I know Dudman wasn’t involved in that set at all.

I do tend to agree though - I think Dudman does a good Ten, but for an hour long story, there are times when it slips. But that's fine, because to me, he's just meant to be a narrator, rather than "playing" the Doctor, so I don't mind it so much if he isn't exactly spot on.
