On this day in 1987 the Max Headroom Signal Hijacking Incident took place. A TV pirate hacked into WTTW Channel 11 in Chicago, Illinois during the broadcast of Horror of Fang Rock. To this day we still do not know who was responsible.

Explains a lot.

On 10th December 1966, Patrick Troughton's first story, Power of the Daleks aired, to a viewership of 7.8 million and an AI of 47 (I've a feeling the mark scheme was harder back then).
11 years later, Sunmakers part three was broadcast, garnering 8.9m viewers and an AI of 68.

I think so, some of the scores seem very low for what remained popular programmes by viewer numbers.
But there was also much genuine dissatisfaction at the first regeneration. From the notes etc. on the blu-ray, there was a lot of 'This is the end of Doctor Who / it'll never be the same again / bring back Bill' etc. etc..
'Power of the Daleks' is by any standards a terrific story; great script, great cast and a chilling plot. 'I am your ser-vant.' And the surviving fragments are just long enough to show it was very well made too; 'Ben, Polly... meet the Daleks.'
Only three years into 60 years and some of the fans were already having a big hissy fit! If they'd had hashtags back then, #notmyDoctor would certainly have been trending. ![:))](//storage.proboards.com/6343532/images/FP0kBuboDlADmMfidske.gif)
