Remberance Extract Very good If only Charlie wasn't an updated Adric but with less personality Regards mark687 Charlie and Luke Smith are basically the same character and it really bugs me. It's been some time since I last saw SJA, but apart from being two gay teenagers who are thrown into a world they know nothing about, I fail to see any similarities. By those standards, you could say Harry Potter is the same character too (sans the gay part). They have completely different motivations and moral codes, Luke is a genius (I wouldn't say Charlie is above average intelligence) and their backgrounds are nothing alike.

Were I to be cynical, I would say that Charlie (he's the wet prince, right?) was a combination of Luke (weird, out-of-context kid who turns out to be gay) and Sky (weird, out-of-context kid who turns out to be an appalling superweapon).

To be fair though, Luke was never officially revealed as gay in SJA. Sure, it was planned but nothing ever happened in the show itself. The only similiarities I see with Luke and Charlie are them being out of place with everyone else because they’re aliens but that’s as far as the similiarities go, IMO.

I was going to give this one a miss but after hearing the samples I had to pre order both volumes and am very much looking forward to hearing them. However unlikely, I am praying that In Remembrance is setting up an Ace spin off.

The only similiarities I see with Luke and Charlie are them being out of place with everyone else because they’re aliens but that’s as far as the similiarities go, IMO. There’s a sense of otherness and naivety to them. Technically Luke is human, as he was created from the mean of the visitors to the Bubbleshock factory and he was created on Earth. While he’s very intelligent, early Luke didn’t have the social skills to pick up on social cues and what was or wasn’t appropriate to say in front of certain people. Charlie was incredibly sheltered and has an amused arrogance about him. He doesn’t think Quill is a threat and treats her casually despite the history between their peoples. He isn’t spoiled, however he does carry the prejudice his people have for Quill’s people. An interesting angle to explore with Charlie would be how he felt no longer having the responsibility one day leading his people, whether he feels relief or guilt and the now uncertain future he faces.

Really torn whether I'm going to listen to this today as I was saving it for my 6 hour coach trip back to uni in a couple of weeks but at the same time, I need to hear it!

Both Volumes done and I enjoyed them both. Good character work, some novel concepts and the format really hones the strengths of the series. I hope Big Finish does more.

So....can I ask what possible justification there was for selling this as two volumes, and then releasing them both on the same day?

So....can I ask what possible justification there was for selling this as two volumes, and then releasing them both on the same day? Big Finish really does not like releasing box sets with more than 4 discs (plus a behind the scenes disc). Probably something about the price going higher than people are willing to spend at once when they may not like all episodes. Though, there are exceptions. Rebellion Reborn (produced by someone else?), Dorian Gray and Destiny of the Doctor (available for purchase individually), and Legacy of Time (20th anniversary set with single arc). Other series split into two box sets include Dan Dare and Benny: The Story So Far.

I think it’s so people who aren’t sure about this release can be enticed in with a lower price tag. Splitting these box sets up allows the it to be cheaper, £20 may be enough for people to risk on a release they are not sure on, £40+ if all of them where together may put people off
