As terrible as the Time War is supposed to be, I just can't see them killing off Romana, Leela, Ace and K9. Oh it would be easy to kill off K9, it's been done already. There's always another K9. I'm really hoping they take a risk and give it a shot. Lord knows they'd be able to pull it off with gusto.

Audio is probably the best place, if any, to depict the Time War. The lack of supplied visuals (CD covers aside) means that each individual listener can develop their own special effects in their heads, which is very useful when a single sound effect can be interpreted in any number of ways. Characters who might age, regress or change don't tax the effects budget, and in a spatio-temporal conflict who knows what horrible things may be inflicted upon people. The gore factor depends on the listener and how strong their stomachs are. In short, the complete lack of visuals allows the listener to picture it for themselves, painting their own picture of the horrors of the Time War.

We know from her companion chronicles that Leela doesn't die on Gallifrey.

The same with Ace as we know she's on Earth at the moment. Killing Romana would be something. and have her regenerate into her forth or whatever incarnation

As a slight remedy to the possibility of The Time War not being as huge and incomprehensibly abstract as some of us might like, we can always imagine that the asymetrical fighting typical of human war stories are just the small-scale skirmishes of the Time War.
So no matter what we see, its the vanilla side of a much more horrific conflict, and we can enjoy it in that context, without feeling that it demeeds RTDs image of the War. That said, I hope they do a good mix of straight war stories, and incomprehensible time horror.
