I listened to the Memory Box, and while it certainly had potential, the whole thing left me rather nonplussed. I can't think of another BF release that's given me that reaction. It wasn't outright bad, but something just didn't come together. It didn't make enthused for the further adventures of Vienna.
Perhaps the word I'm looking for is "rudderless."

I wasn't sold on the character when she appeared in the main range so I have passed on her solo stuff. Same with the other spinoff ranges featuring BF created characters - I wasn't big on them either and have passed on those sets.

Personally I would highly recommend The Memory Box and the first box set. A very clever collection of stories with lots of intriguing ideas and both funny and exciting. If you are unsure give the single release a go as it is self contained and a good introduction to what is to come. However I was disappointed by the second box set as although the first box set ended with a mystery it wasn't subsequently addressed or even acknowledged and the main character and setting changed into basically a female Judge Dredd. I'd mostly agree with this. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the first four stories. The whole series is well written and well up to Big Finish's usual standard, but the earlier stories really challenged the writers in terms of the setup and were uncompromising on the high concept stuff. Last year's box felt like a somewhat different beast, well made, but less distinctive, and ultimately less interesting to me.

I've heard the first story, really enjoyed it once the plot began to get intriguing. Some nice ideas well thought through

what truly terrible covers!
whatever possessed them to go down the "Glamour" shot route
they are neither sexy nor glamorous, they look like readers wives photos from the 70's
awful!

Disappointed with the theme tune this time round. It's reminiscent of The Memory Box theme but cuts out after 35 seconds, and we don't get to hear a 'full' version at the end of each episode.

Liked all the stories as I was in the mood for slightly mad. The set felt more coherent than previous

Another great set and nice to see the series is distancing itself from the typical memory elements (Impossibly Glamarous aside).

I am still tempted and it is good to see some positive comments - anyone else listened to this and feels like convincing me to not give up on Vienna?

I'm enjoying it. I restarted with Memory Box and listened all the way through, just finished with Jonah Hall (HA!) and onto the final story. Way more entertaining than Iris, and I'm still buying those.

I've heard the first story, really enjoyed it once the plot began to get intriguing. Some nice ideas well thought through I just finished listening to "Self Improvement" and I thought the conclusion didn't make much sense. Here are a couple of points Point 1: {Spoiler} Doctor Glospan replicated himself 8 years ago. How did he do this? It seemed that this replication is a two step process - first scan, then duplicate. I suppose his hidden replicator could have had the dupe part on automatic, but there should have been a line about it. Point 2: {Spoiler} Doctor Glospan says he will either hire or kill Vienna. So, why doesn't she say she will work with him? Why when she sees Jexie blowing away Glospans doesn't she call her off and say it is a misunderstanding?
She ends up doing what Glospan wanted in the first place. So, why kill all the Glospans?

Hi Nottenst, I think an explicit covering of the mechanics of Point 1 was something that got trimmed editorially. There's a lot gets covered in this scene and we reckoned it didn't all need spelling out. For Point 2 I'd have to dig out the script, it's been well over a year and I've not yet had a comp of the finished play to check back. I think the order of events involves the characters' positions changing as things unfold, but I need to refresh my memory there. I'll have another look when I've got a bit more time. All the best, Ian

Big Society was really over the top and a lot of fun. I have a couple of small questions about that as well. Question 1 {Spoiler} Why didn't Vienna make a backup copy of the data crystal? This would seem to be a basic precaution. Question 2 {Spoiler} The death of Sweet was nice and ironic, but I can't see him immediately dismissing his killer buildings and not promising them money to save him.
Also, what happened to his money after he died? I'd think Vienna would have wanted to do something about it. Almost done with Impossibly Glamorous Two things so far have come to mind about this. Still, it has been a lot of fun so far. I am looking forward to the conclusion on the way home tonight. Point one {Spoiler} Jexie says to Drew that Helping Hands killed Glospan, which they might have done if Jexie and Vienna hadn't beat them to it in Self Improvement. Maybe she is self-rationalizing. Point two {Spoiler} It took Glospan many years to make Good Day. It seems that Bad Day was reverse engineered and developed in practically no time at all.

All in all the third series was quite enjoyable even though there were a few things that might have been unexplained or contradictory.
