By a year or two, maybe. I definitely liked Husbands as an ending for his tenure more than Twice Upon a Time.
BUT! If he hadn't stayed, Husbands would still be the most recent Doctor Who episode. So I can't really complain.

Moffat was the worst producer in the show's long history and has accomplished what he always wanted to with the utter destruction of the show! Did he stay too long? Too right he did!!! And he has very much earned his name of Moffhack as well! JB

Doctor Who’s been utterly destroyed? Someone better tell Chibnall and Whittaker; they’re wasting their time filming more of it.

He needs to proves he's cast the right person Nothing to do with Moffatt Well, a female Doctor was always on the cards, and that was all down to Moffat.

Nothing to do with Moffatt Well, a female Doctor was always on the cards, and that was all down to Moffat. It would have happened eventually anyway. If not this time, next time... or the time after.
As to whether the show has been destroyed - as somebody mentioned earlier - the fact it's still on the TV proves that to be an obviously false statement. It is going to be interesting on how the next season plays out though.

Exactly. What an absurd thing for anyone to say. And Moffat didn't cast the new Doctor. Chibnall did, so it is all down to the current show runner, not the previous one. All CC has to do is deliver a good show. The press generated by a new Doctor and the first female Doctor is going to get plenty of butts in seats watching.

For me, it was a pretty rough trek from Series 7 to 9. 9 especially!
But as frustrating as it was at times, running a show like Doctor Who's probably a tough gig, so it feels a tad churlish to say Moffat outstayed his welcome, when he probably did the best he could looking after the show. And Series 10 is one of my favourites to date, so if anything, he stayed just long enough.

You know - I am a fan of the Classic Series as opposed to the New Series. That's the series I grew up with and where my interest and affection lies. However, looking back, for all one may score points with however many millions watched it back then, the fact that it was rarely inside the top 100 and only graced the cover of the Radio Times for its 20th anniversary after mid way through the Third Doctor era. At school, I was the only person I knew who would admit to watching never mind even liking the series around about 1986/7. But I was a dedicated fan, you see. I looked for positive things to say about it.
The new series has stuck around the top 20 (and frequented the top 10!!) and on the covers of TV magazines regularly, even when it's not on the box, in the UK for 13 years now. It's popular with as broad a section of the population than ever, in the face of online streaming and the age of 'box set' binge viewing via broadband TV.
Yet there are those who still want the new series to fail/get axed so as to prove some things just cannot be replaced or be bettered. Why all the hate?
I am not the core demographic of the series as it exists now. But I am not concerned, as there are millions more for whom it certainly is. I can go back to my DVD collection if i don't get into the series this Autumn, but I have a feeling the vast majority of viewers won't give a damn about anything other than being entertained and by the series being accessible.

If you had asked the question in 2014-16 I would have said he stayed too long and should have left with Smith, but after series 10 I he proved he was not out of ideas and did not stay too long. The year off certainly did him and the show good.

The year off certainly did him and the show good. I will be the first person to admit Smith's final year & Capaldi's first year were very much mixed bags. That said, I am a fan of season 9's series of two-part episodes even though Clara stayed on for too long but as you say, series 10 was outstanding. It felt like a much fresher show and based on it, I was sorry to see everyone leave.
