According to this website, www.femalefirst.co.uk/tv/news/lost-doctor-who-stories-become-animations-1153654.htmlMacra Teror and Wheel in space are the next in line to be animated, like Shada and Power of the Daleks. I'm really hoping this is accurate, because ti shows confidence in the animation departments, and for some it makes these lost stories far more palletable. and it means that DMP isn't completely beyond possibility. 8 Episodes is one thing, but 10 isn't too far off for that. What are your thoughts? Any episodes you want in particular to be animated?

Maybe because it’s called “female first” which doesn’t sound like a site for the latest who news also the fact that Macra Terror and Wheel just seem like two odd stories to pick.

I'd love for Fury from the Deep to be next

The Mirror reporting it to - this tweeter scanned the article twitter.com/Gribbla12It's cool news. Amazing how much more realised the Troughton era is on disc now. When I think how few videos I was able to get with him. What times.

To be fair, I’d heard they had a good track record about the animations in the past. One can always hope.

I honestly hope not because I really want Macra Terror to be found and not have to buy it twice would be nice.

WIll be interesting to see if this is true. I wonder, though - have the BBC now got a version of the Macra soundtrack that actually allows you to work out what the taennoy songs are actually singing?

That's interesting - I listened to Macra the other day and thought it could be a great animated story if directed with some style - ie. better than Power of the Daleks, less like a reconstruction of a theatrical sixties TV show, more an actual animated movie... Not that I hated Power, mind, but a man can dream.

Which version of the soundtrack do you have, as I always thought The Macra Terror was one of the clearest? (For reference, I think the version I have was a re-release in the Missing Episode Collection 4 box set, narrated by Anneke Wills) Also, this will be fantastic news if true!

Funny, I was thinking about starting a thread on will there be a 2018 animation and what story would we like.
Hope this is true. If animations are now running at 2 a year we will get through the back catalogue faster

I truly despised the animation for Power of the Daleks and found the whole thing unwatchable. I hope they have a different, ie better, animation house.

They seem like odd choices to me (which might give the story credence, after all, if you were going to make it up you'd surely pick The Daleks' Master Plan or Evil of the Daleks or one of the fan favourites). I'm guessing that if true, they'll release them into that Monster Collection DVD range pairing a classic story with a new series one (Gridlock for the Macra Terror, plenty to pick for Wheel) plus hopefully standalone as well.
As for the animation style, it doesn't really bother me how basic it is. Just about anything is better than the reconstructions which I find to be barely watchable and I often just listen to the soundtrack instead.

If it's more Troughton, I'll definitely be buying it. I actually really liked the animation for Power of the Daleks. It's not perfect, but I'm more likely to go back to the missing stories if there's visuals to go along with it - the soundtracks are just not the same as Big Finish audio stories...

Disagree. I thought the animation style worked well in acknowledging the limitations of the time. It's British animation, I'm not expecting them to hire South Korea or anything and it wouldn't be a faithful recreation of the original story, regardless.

I'd rather honour what was intended, then do anything different.

For the record, I thought the Power of the Daleks animation worked pretty well, too.

I think the animation was good, I just don't think they were given enough time to do it properly.
I feel that Power was rushed.

I get that, and I don't necessarily mean changing the look of characters or anything - mostly just playing to the strengths of animation rather than having stiff Flash puppets moving to a rough approximation of what might have been filmed on a soundstage. Have the movement be more animated, play with angles, lighting, shadows, etc. Let the characters have more than one facial expression! But, yeah, I get that these are not done with a huge budget and that these are mostly pipe dreams. I'll still watch whatever they put out, won't I?

I'm glad there are people who liked the animation. I certainly wanted to love it.

I have yet to complete the Power of the Daleks DVD (got through 4 episodes). I felt the animation lacked atmosphere or character, as good as the story is. In the time since i have listed to the soundtracks to Fury form the Deep, Evil of the Daleks, The Savages, The Smugglers, half of the Mythmakers, and am now onto The Abominable Snowmen. I just find it less distracting than rudimentary visuals.
The two animated stories I return to are Invasion and Reign of Terror. Reign of Terror is to myself an excellent visualisation of the soundtrack and keeps me involved. I understand that others did not like it, but I found it as effective as Invasion. The Ice Warriors was for me the weakest - Captain Pugwash indeed.
I will buy them all the same if released, though, I just wish they would gain some consistency in quality. Its frustrating to add something to the DVD shelf only to turn to the soundtrack on Audible to better appreciate the story.
