Okay here we go. It is good to have Doctor Who back and this was very much Doctor Who. Pluses, casting is spot-on. All the traveling mates are interesting with a lot of material to work with. Bradley Walsh is kind of a revelation. I see the comparisons that some have made to 13 being kind of 10-like. There is that kind of fizzy quality to 13 that we saw with 10 at his best. Whittaker certainly grabs the role by the sonic and runs with it. Speaking of sonic, I love the do-it-yourself screwdriver aka Swiss Army No Knife. The show looked gorgeous. Every aspect of production design has raised the bar from what we have seen before. The baddie was totally creepy and the trophy collection aspect was a nice shot of body horror thrown into the mix. I like that we don't get to see the TARDIS yet. I love the cliffhanger. This very much felt like something from the person who created Broadchurch. Minuses, the whole middle section felt long to me and the dragging coincided with the part of the episode where the Doctor is recovering from the regeneration. I'm kind of tired of the section of every first new Doctor adventure where we have to wait for the Doctor to reboot and figure out who they are. Been there, seen that. Otherwise, I enjoyed it. I still think The 11th Hour is the best Doctor introduction episode, certainly of the modern era and maybe of the entire series but this was very, very good and for the most part, a really confident first outing for 13.

Alright Rant incoming aimed at the BBC America showing: 1. The commercial breaks ruined my enjoyment as the editing was not meant to have commercial breaks in it 2. The pre and aftershows are extremely clingy with the whole we’re Whovians and it’s just amazig we have female representation 3. The commercial breaks god they made the dramatic flow stop working. 4. They seemed to have cut stuff out of the American broadcast: there was no hint of theme or a coming soon trailer at the end just a shot after the teleport and then aftershow 5. The commercial breaks were really bad. I need to rewatch just so I can experience the episode as it’s meant to be experienced I hear you. I started watching the show via torrents in 2005 since it took a couple of years for the US to start showing it and I am simply unable to watch the show with commercials. So I still watch the show via the web.

Ill say how my 48 year old dad felt. And that is he didn’t like it on a whole. He felt it was too inclusive for the sake of diversity, he thought the doctor didn’t have enough gravitas and that it felt more like the sarah jane adventures than Doctor who. The plot was probably as dense as the eleventh hours with it more being about the characters than say deep breath for instance. And the writing isn’t as quick witted as Moffat if thats what rocked your boat. He did like Bradley walsh and thought it was put together but he just didn’t connect with it and feels he aint the targeted age demographic even if he can apreciate a lot of people probably will. He’ll still keep watching to see where it goes and hes commited for so long he aint going to give up but yeah it wasnt his thing on a whole but he knew it wouldn’t be. Basically i think is it does everything your probably expecting it to be like and whilst its very good imo and what i wanted, i can easily see why some people just wont be able to get into it. I’d still give it a try tho as, worse case scenario, youve used an hour of your life watching something you think is crap. See I loved the diversity of the cast. I loved the diversity shown in the preview of guest performers at the end. I love that Doctor Who is reflecting the world for how it is.

Also the fact that the villain sounded like it was being called Tim Shaw, I kept having Dark Shadows flashbacks.

I've seen a few people on social media moaning about the diversity. I can't really see the issue at all. They were just written as....people. A copper, a couple, a kid struggling with his condition. Nothing about any of that was related to their ethnicities or gender.

I liked that it ended with the "friends" getting dragged along rather than by choice. That was rather November '63. It also made absolute sense as after the funeral I couldn't see a "Well, who wants to go for adventures?" scene working organically.

The plot was sort of thin, the monster was a good concept but didn’t make that much of an impression and I think it took a while for Jodie and Bradley to settle in. But apart from that it was brilliant, made me smile a lot, almost teared up a bit at the end, great characters and I love the music sting when the Doctor arrives, a solid 8/10.

Nothing about any of that was related to their ethnicities or gender. Which is how one should display diversity. You just show people as people. We are all of us human, no matter the exterior. Unless of course we are a Time-Lord.

There was very much a lack of plot. This was all about introducing characters and building on those characters. I think that is the single biggest difference between Chris Chibnall & Steven Moffat. As a writer, Moffat is all about plot and Chibnall, like RTD before him, is much more about character. I would say there was just enough plot to keep the thing moving most of the time.

Yeah i never said my dad was a decent human being hes one of my least favorite people ever 😂😂 but he is far closer to the sterotypical skeptics of Jodie Whittaker than my 16 year old brain would ever be hence why i gave his viewpoint instead of mine.

I thought the "Here's the celebs you can look forward to seeing this Autumn" was a fun idea in lieu of a Next Time trailer.

I liked it, although it was probably a bit too long, but the characters were believable and well written I thought. As in, written as normal people any of us could encounter. I did think the [two] villains were a bit lacklustre but they were never going to steal the show tonight anyway. I'm going to re-watch The Woman Who Fell to Earth again tomorrow in case I missed anything but I thought it was a good start to the new season and a fine introduction to the new Doctor, and her friends. (A more simple introduction than what we've been used to with previous Doctors!) Season Eleven is off and running and The Woman Who Fell to Earth gets a 4/5 from me.

Watched it this afternoon and loved it.
Did notice the musical score, interesting and different.
And yes, the BBC America ads were the worst, long and really broke up the flow of the episode.

Well that was different. First 5 - 10 minutes was tempted to turn it off. As don't care about companions just wanted to get to know new Doctor. For the most part music was fine except when the Doctor made her appearance. As I don't think it fit and seemed like something out of a superhero movie.
Packed a lot of stuff in and while the character background stuff worked I had no idea what was going on with the alien tooth fairy. It looked good and was well acted.
Ending was great and I'm hoping going forward companions won't be able to nip home every 5 minutes. Next weeks episode looks interesting.
3/10

I thought the "Here's the celebs you can look forward to seeing this Autumn" was a fun idea in lieu of a Next Time trailer. I just hope at the end of the season we get a recap of them all, like the You Have Been Watching bit at the end of all those Perry & Croft sitcoms .
