I think this is something that people here might appreciate. In planning maneuvers at NASA for a certain mission we had used the prefix PR for a perigee raise maneuver early in the mission. It was only a DV maneuver. The flight ops team coded that prefix into their system and recognized that maneuvers with this prefix would only be DV maneuvers. Later we needed a perigee raise maneuver combined with an angular momentum (DH) maneuver. We could not use the PR prefix since that had already been used. The 50th anniversary special had recently aired. Both the the government lead and myself watch Doctor Who. So, I suggested GS for Gallifrey Stands!
He agreed and so then and since then all of these general DV/DH maneuvers that are substituting for perigee raise or another type have that GS prefix. We have supplied another more mundane meaning for GS (possibly general stabilization), but we know it is Gallifrey Stands. We are performing another one of these maneuvers on November 1. And I happen to be listening to the one of the stories in the most recent Gallifrey collection today.

2nd day of November 2023.. I almost made it the whole year.. My 1st death threat for the year just occurred. 2 last year.
Luckily 1 of my Managers was sitting near me and he heard it all. Immediate "action" occurring. Police have been advised.

On my way to the UK. Look forward to exhibit work at conference with my English colleague. Plus giving my talks. Plus free food, including the gala dinner. Now these trains must play ball.

Not made: I was disappointed that the VPN I have (it comes with my McAfee account) didn't work on BBC iPlayer last night. I did get to watch the Tardis Tales on YouTube, although I had to guess at the order that they belonged in.

On the bright side, I realized last night that the actual Anniversary is on Thanksgiving! So I think instead of the parade this year I'll be watching Doctor Who!

Giving a lecture on pet ants to a packed lecture theatre full of exotic vets, with lots of people coming to me afterwards and being invited to give another talk on the topic on a later date. Even the president came up to me. This is what I call a success, and to h*** with all the haters who laughed at the idea beforehand.

Such a strange thing to do. Seems to be only done by straight couples.

I agree that it's silly. I did find a video of a gay couple doing a gender reveal party, so it's not unknown in the gay community. Though I would guess members of the LGBTQIA+ community are much more aware that what you see at birth is not necessarily what your child is going to be. The people who threw a baby shower for my daughter when she was expecting her first made her the perfect gender reveal cake: Rainbow! Spoiler: They didn't know and didn't want to know what they were having till the much wanted child arrived. There was no baby shower for the second pregnancy because Covid. And they already had enough stuff for a baby. Again they didn't know what they were having till baby arrived. I didn't know what I was having in advance, either. I like surprises.

Gender reveal parties really do just bring out the absolute worst in people.

When we found out what we were having- the only people that knew was us 2 and the 2 medical people in the room that did the scan. We kept it quiet until he was born.
