It's been a while since I posted here, so it's going to be more like "What made my week."
- The Star Beast was great! Just what I was hoping for. Yes, there were some moments that I'm not sure really worked, but as a whole I loved it. I'm really hoping for more Rose and Shirley in the future. (I think Shirley is a better character for Ruth Maddely than Hebe.) - I had a terrific Thanksgiving. All my nieces and nephews came with their spouses (those that are married) to town from afar. They came from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Delaware and Philly, The Netherlands and even Israel. My niece who lives in Tel Aviv spoke to us all about what she has been living through. It was tough to hear but I'm grateful to her for trusting us enough to tell it. We all were wishing that she wouldn't go back, but of course she did. -The day after Thanksgiving we had a Jewish baby naming ceremony for my nephew and his wife's baby girl. I got to see even more family and it was a wonderful evening. -Tuesday night I saw an amazing production of the Stephen Sondheim show Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway. It stars Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathon Groff (who will be in Doctor Who next season). I love this show. Who knew Harry Potter could sing? -Harper registered for classes at the local college. She hasn't been in school since she had to drop out during Covid. I'm so happy that she is taking this step.
It's been quite a week!

It's great to be back.

Yesterday I have been to the concert of NAZARETH together with my dad who had been a fan waaayyyy back in his youth.
My first observation- audience was about 10 years older compared to previous concerts I attended to.
It was AMAZING!!!!
We were at this club in my hone town that is in an old train station.
Quote my dad "I have never been here before. I was wondering how they did all these concerts in an old train station. So they actually used an old warehouse as concert hall. I did not know it was THAT big! Have you been here before?" I: " Yes, I have been here before, several times, with my sister and brother for concerts." Dad: "I did not imagine this was such a thing. And look how many people are here!"
Nazareth had two support bands, both from Switzerland- Ground Shaker and Fire Rose.
Both support bands were super nice and I had a chat with them and got CDs signed.
Quote my dad: "These guys are actually really nice. Looking at them I would not have thought they would be nice." I:" Why wouldn't they be nice? They are trying to sell CDs and give autographs...."
Ground Shaker has an amazing drummer and my dad was absolutely amazed by the drummer and later chatted with him and even said a special good bye to him when we left.....
And Nazareth are fantastic- they played 1h45mins and played all their best known songs.
And of course they know how to do a show, and to interact with the audience.
Quote my dad "These guys now are a bit older than the last ones...."
Well, it was a hoot.
In the end, my dad said: "Well, this was quite okay." Which properly translates into "This was really awesome."
I am really glad I did this and invited my dad as his birthday present to this concert.
I am still struggling with my mental health at the moment and have ZERO motivation to do these things, and actually did not feel any excitement for this (only annoyance that I had to go) but honestly, it was great, it lifted my mood, I had a great time and my dad and I had a bit of a bonding moment.
I am glad that I went, and it was totally worth it.

After all these exciting updates, I can't resist adding my own thrilling news on the week just gone:
One day, I put the dustbins out. The next day (here's the twist), I brought them back in.
In my defence, it's been cold enough to freeze the gun off an Ice Warrior!
The good side of this is, I've seen a Blackcap on the bird feeders and it's only December 1st. They normally migrate in from Europe in late winter but with the cold from the east, they're already here. And how do I know this attractive little bird was from Europe, I hear you ask? (Oh go on, ask!) OK then - because our local Blackcaps have the good sense to migrate to Spain for the winter, leaving a niche for their European cousins to move into our relatively warm gardens. But this has only been happening for a few decades since they discovered that in Britain lots of people put out bird food in the winter. So what looks like a natural pattern is actually down to us!

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Can you hear that sound? It’s the rulebook… getting torn up! Keep living for kicks, 13 😂 (Hold onto your hat - I’m about to walk the dogs!)

Yesterday Harper and I went to see Neil Gaiman. We went with some friends of mine that I haven't seen in way too long. It was a terrific afternoon/evening. He has a wonderful easiness on stage and is great at holding an audience without feeling like he's putting on a show. He sat on a stool at a podium for most of the 2 hours he was there, answering questions that people wrote him before the show and doing some readings. He did the piece that he wrote and read at Neil Adams' funeral, and some really wonderful other things that don't get seen much. Then we all went for a wonderful dinner in Newark. It was a great time.

Having learned to use right-handed things all these years, I wonder how I'd (and if I'd be able to) adapt to a lefthanded keyboard. I totally can't use a left handed mouse. Nor a left handed scissors. Nor a lefthanded manual can opener that my Mom bought me years ago at a left hander store. Signed, a Southpaw (otherwise known as Lefty )

However, I’ve been making sure that, wherever possible and whenever I’ve been in charge of a subject’s cost centre at my schools, I’ve bought supplies for my students that include a mix of left-handed versions to cater for others “like me” when they’re available.

We get paid to do surveys! A quick $50 in supermarket vouchers does down nicely ! Having on the phone "interviews" with Professors/Scientists - it's fun !

Depression, anxiety, irrational mood swings, insomnia, lack of appetite.
My mental health is worst ever been.
I started thinking what's the point.

My childhood neighbour.. who is in his early 50's now with 5 boys and 2 grandsons... Is a militant Aussie Trump supporter (I keep telling him to get involved in our Politics if he has that yearning) .. vax denier, consfearacy theorist believer of Everything.. he is still sending me videos "proving" the Earth is flat..
I told him we can just agree to disagree, he just "laughs it off" and pretty much says you will come around and see "The Truth"..
My mother is horrified, he was not like this when we were much younger. Scary.!

So, I just wrote up about this elsewhere, but the passing of Benjamin Zephaniah. It feels surreal to even write that, because the man and his work was always, in some, in the background of my childhood and adolescence: his TV appearances, his poems, even came to both my schools to do readings. A man with a unique presence and voice, and one who paved the way for a lot of Black artists and creatives in the UK.
If you've never heard of him before, give this piece of his a whirl. RIP to a one of a kind.

Today I found a snail, on the ceiling, upstairs.
How this ninja mollusc made it all the way through the house and upstairs without being spotted on the way is quite the mystery.
Now, I am completely live-and-let-live with our garden's so-called "pests" because they're all part of the food chain and I like the garden wildlife which depends on them. But I draw the line at sharing house space with invading gastropods, I've seen what happened to Jaconda. Mr. Robin, your breakfast is served.

Gastropods have their uses. No idea if you know the episode of "Wellington Paranormal" about the alien plants staging an invasion and the slugs in Minogues salad....

I must confess I've not even heard of the series! Until now.
