I've long desired a BF set in Adelaide (City of Churches, Beaumont Children mystery, Adelaide Oval) but an adaption of Goth Opera would interesting as part of that is set in my adopted city of Launceston, and cricketer David Boon - or as we call him, "Boonie - legend!", is mentioned.
Tegan would be a rugby fan i guess, being from Queensland? Maybe the Doctor has a stash of VHS tapes of Australian rules football that she watches.
A 5/Peri or 6/Peri story which deconstructed Crocodile Dundee, would also be fascinating.

The Doctor could discover his love for BBQs and I am certain he could whip out a funny impressive implement to scare off any knife- wielders...

We are the serial killer capital of the world still I think.
They could meet up at the Malls Balls or at Villi's Bakery, go through Victor Harbor or the Barossa Valley, or even at Hanhndorf (where the Germans fled to, to escape persecution and settled here)

Yeah but imagine the faux Australian accents *shudder* Why would they be fake? There are more than enough Australian actors living in the UK. Oddly, most complaints about accents seem to come when we cast authentically, so I don't know if it's just a case of people expecting we don't do our homework? Anyway!

It could also be expectations of what the accent is supposed ("supposed") to sound like as well. Weird, left-of-field example, but the werewolf fur for the Van Helsing film was originally sourced from authentic wolf pelt. The genuine thing. But it didn't look right on camera because people were so used to the more exaggerated variety, so they ended up using that instead.

Have there really never been any stories set in Australia? I am genuinely surprised by this.

I think it’s more a case of people complaining about the wrong thing, accusing accents of being fake when what they’re really jarred by is the use of British English-isms that are not how people in [English-speaking locales other than the UK] speak. Except for Minuet in Hell. But we don’t speak of Minuet in Hell

Have there really never been any stories set in Australia? I am genuinely surprised by this. Oh, there've been a few here and there over the years. The Butcher of Brisbane, Invasion of the Cat-People and The Gathering are all set in Queensland. The Daleks nuked the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the TV Comics and the Doctor stopped a scheme being orchestrated from a rocket site in the Northern Territory. I'm probably missing a few here and there, but it does get the occassional look-in (the start of Enemy of the World, for instance).
There has recently been one for South Australia, if not Adelaide itself. Operation Volcano from Titan Comics was set at Maralinga near Woomera. Famous for nuclear tests done in the region from the late 50s to early 60s.

Is this a Launceston on that mainland I'm unaware of (Google offers nothing), or are you referring to the Tasmanian Launceston? If so: 1) I had no idea any Doctor Who story had taken place in Tasmania!; 2) That's where I currently live, so that would be awesome

I think there was a tenth doctor comic in DWM called “Blood and Ice” that was set in Sydney, could be wrong though

I seriously recommend picking it up. Seventh Doctor, Ace, Countermeasures as written by Andrew Cartmel. It's brilliant. I love the image of a room in the TARDIS that's just filled to the rafters (or the Ship's equivalent) with video cassettes. The further back you go, you start getting into film reels, wax cylinders, flipbooks... The Doctor's backlog of watching.

Note to the author Paul Cornell : Tasmania is known by all and sundry as "Tassie" and not "Tassy". Also, Tegan said at the end about being "back in Aussie" when the terminology used by all antipodeans is "back in Oz".

And it's definitely "Tassie" and "back in Oz". Anything else would be weird
