He has said in interviews and Q&As that he doesn't like doing photos.

I wish the rights to use Grace were easily available, it’d be interesting to have an era that goes right back to the very beginning of Eight’s timeline and have him travel properly with Grace while finding his feet.

I was burning out on the grim stories, the war- and build up to the war-era stories where the Doctor had lost something vital about himself. And along comes the Adventures Of Lucie Bleedin’ Millar to set things right!

This might not be the best place for it but I have some issues and I don't want to take any of the other threads off topic. Mods, feel free to move as you wish because I'm genuinely not trying to start drama on here, I just need to scream into the void. I've been getting some extreme burnout with the current direction of the Eighth Doctor. This has been building probably since Doom Coalition started. And I think I can link it to the companions. Yes... I have no love for Liv and Helen. Liv tends to be a sacred cow around here and Helen is decently sainted as well so that feels like blasphemy. Let me explain myself. Liv utterly bores me (the snide and sarcastic deadpan really gets old after 40 odd stories) and Helen feels like an even less interesting copy from "the past" instead of from "the future", neither of which I think have really been consequential outside of Escape From Kaldor. The similarity between Nicola Walker's voice and Hattie Morahan's voice do not help the problem. Now none of this is to say that I hate any of the current line of stories. I've lauded Companion Piece as one of the best Big Finish stories ever and that has Liv and Helen center stage. But that's also because they were bouncing off of Charley (who was just totally on fire that entire episode) and Bliss (who had an extremely interesting plot in the episode) the entire time. Maybe it's just the tedium of the same companions for so long with not much to show why they're still there other than the fact that they're fan favorites (I felt the same with Rose and the Ponds). Maybe it's the insistence on an arc that doesn't really feel like it's going anywhere in plot or thematically (this actually might be my number 1 issue with Ravenous). I just have a lot of problems with how things are laying out and I'm ready for a change. And a durassic one. Let Eight fall in with a new companion who lets him have more fun. How about a break from long arcs? Maybe (dare I say it?) shakeup the writers. Just anything to change the direction of the current Eighth Doctor line. I really hope I got my problems out and was at least somewhat constructive with my issues but I just really needed to get that off of my chest and we're all decently civil around here so don't hurt me too much. It’s good to vent 😉

Well there are plenty of glowing review quotes on the website, so a lot of people must have liked it. Well, it would be a marketing strategy worse than usual for BF if they put all the negatives up... I am always a bit hesitant believing everything on any commercial website... and the general impression I got was pretty much on the negative side... I did Charley Box set one what can I say but seven months on I can remember it so needs a revisit but I cannot say it was terrible just blah blah

[b The Time War was just of those inevitable cash cows as I said before was there anything that McGann could do when John Hurts Doctor acted much the same it really was not going to go anywhere ravenous though am loving and I enjoy Nicola and Hattie in them so much so a fun episode of them o. A girls night out could lighten the mood Lol McGann gets to be lighter with Lucie and there’s no reason that he can’t be lighter again I mean we don’t really know how far away his war Doctor seriousness is I like the Time War but more the Gallifrey politics and machinations and the Masters devious plots . but hell I will be happy when the time War ends 😂😂😂

At least until his meeting the War Master and OMG (!!) Lies in Ruins. That was absolutely shocking. I had not expected Big Finish would go that dark. Everything that came before had nothing on this.
I said above that I quite enjoyed the darker 8th Doctor stories. Lies in Ruins however was something else and I admit a bit too much for me.
But if they continue in this direction with the 8th Doctor Time War stuff, the next set might be the best one yet. Certainly having high hopes for it after this months offerings.
And I totally agree with you- would be awesome to have at least a single fun girls day out episode with Liv and Helen. Just some fun, and maybe having the Doctor letting his hair down a bit. We really did not get that a lot with that team (at least not without killer robots and demons showing up a short time after arrival).
After the shock that was Lies in Ruins, I would be actually quite keen on something like that... but I guess there will be no respite with the Master taking charge in the next set.

Yes agree Lies in Ruins and the whole Legacy was excellent stuff I guess the Time War didn’t really excite me I listened with great expectation during Hurts adventures but it didn’t really ignite a spark in me at all. Given that, the Gallifrey ones did and I do hold hopes for Jaystons venture into it. Am not burnt out by McGann it his companions by any means though and do enjoy their adventures it’s just the Time WAR as a concept that’s limiting them

I love Liv and I, for one, am not suffering from Eighth Doctor burnout. I don't have a problem with Helen, either. My two cents worth. Same. I love them both, and while I understand that they'll both have to go sooner or later, I'll be sad when it happens.

For me I much preferred 8 in the MR. I'm one of those folks that loved the DU arc.

For me I much preferred 8 in the MR. I'm one of those folks that loved the DU arc. Yeah, the DU arc was great for experimental stories. I loved those. Scherzo is one of the greatest things BF have done. And before I heard "Lies in Ruins" I thought they would never get that dark with the 8th Doctor again...
I general, I would like more of these experimental stories again, I just love the absurd.
But I am not sure we will ever get get more.

I enjoyed the DU arc, for the most part. There were a couple of stories I wasn't wild about, but I never thought it deserves all the negativity it gets.

Hello again.
As my Seventh Doctor journey reaches its end, I will be moving onto McGann's Eighth Doctor. His Chimes of Midnight with that spooky David Arnold theme on BBC7 was my first Big Finish audio.
Then those hilarious Lucie Millar tales also on BBC7. It was like having two Doctors at once. Tenth on tv and Eighth on audio. I was so pleased he was showing what a good Doctor he would have made in his own tv series.
Then we had Dark Eyes, which I enjoyed and the finances precluded buying anything beyond Doom Coalition 1 and 3 which I am looking forward to hearing.
I was not a great enthusiast for opening up the Time War so I have avoided it. However, that first episode of Legacy really showed that McGann's Doctor is capable of great range from really scary to jolly adventurer. That voice carries you through his adventures and I look forward to seeing where he goes next.
I notice that he faces Derek Jacobi's frightening incarnation of the Master soon and that encounter will hopefully be truly memorable.

I keep seeing that the latest 8/war master is really good. My problem is that there’s so much good stuff and I’m only budgeting for one (or more and more frequently) two purchases per month. Perhaps I should weaken... just this once!
No 8 burnout here though for me. Very much enjoying the box sets! Intrigued as to what we’ll see after Ravenous and loving the Liv/Helen/8 combo. It’s like a dream team for Doctor Who adventures, it really is.

I definitely feel like Liv will be gone at the end of Ravenous, but I’m not so sure about Helen, the two of them come as a package deal, so it’d make sense for them to leave together, but I can also see them keeping Helen on and giving her the “companion Prime” role as she’s always been somewhat secondary to Liv. It’d definitely be interesting to see Eight and Helen with a male companion.
At a guess, I’d say that maybe after Ravenous, the 8DAs will go the way of the 4DAs and have two boxsets a year that will make up one series. Perhaps a “The New Eighth Doctor Adventures” soft reboot with a brand new companion, probablg a young woman from 21st Century earth. It wouldn’t surprise me if they steered Eight back towards his happier persona and gave him some more traditional adventures again after the blockbuster run of Dark Eyes/Doom Coalition/Ravenous. He definitely needs some space to breathe and enjoy life again.
