Never heard of him before now but after the clip they showed of him he definitely got my attention with the vibes he gives off! Yeah same here. First time I have seen this guy. But then, I am not up to date with modern television.

I’ve never seen Bishop act in anything before, just some of his stuff as a comedian, so will be curious to see how he performs. Liverpool makes another nice change as well.

It's a bit of a lack of imagination to replace Bradley Walsh with someone who's basically the scouse version of Bradley Walsh. Good look to anyone watching outside the UK trying to understand what he's saying without putting the subtitles on.

I have nothing against his casting, as he can act and is clearly there as with Bradley Walsh to attract an older demographic on the time-slot, who would watch them in light entertainment, but showing their ability to play it straight. I suspect it is a strategy that has worked very well with Bradley and it has boosted his own profile immensely. In a way though, it is reminiscent of some of JNT's light entertainments guest casting choices. I would think that it would be comparable to Bob Monkhouse being cast as an older foil to the Fifth Doctor in 1981, or even Cilla Black or Lulu appearing with either Sixie or Seven. All three had acting work on their CV's remember, so it is not too far fetched an idea. Nor a criticism.

She would be more likely to SHOUT than scream though. Plus she enjoys the distinction of having a Main Range Story named in honour of her Eurovision win: www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/doctor-who-bang-bang-a-boom-205

A more substantial version of Ken Dodd’s Tollmaster from Delta and the Bannermen if you will.

I was thinking myself of his early work in the likes of Carry on Sergeant & Dentist on the Job, where he had appeal as 'one for the ladies'. He would still have been younger than John Bishop at the suggested early 80's period. But as you say, he was quite versatile and could have made a great guest cameo doing something more eccentric. Still cannot believe that of all those thousands of hours of VHS tapes he recorded of rare & lost TV shows, not one missing Dr Who. No accounting for taste.....

The Mirror is claiming that Jodie is leaving at the end of the next series. Take that how you will.

The Mirror do have a relatively good track record when it comes to Who. But take it as you will.

Link to the article. The Mirror do have a relatively good track record when it comes to Who. But take it as you will. Hope not, not just because I think she's great but its predictable for a Doctor now to leave after 3 seasons & with the limited episodes next season I want more Jodie! If she does leave I hope we don't go back to a male Doc again.

Not just relatively; they have an excellent track record of publishing accurate Who-related scoops going back years.
(And still every time people will dismiss their stories out of hand.)
To be honest based on her non-answers to the question during recent interviews I wouldn't be surprised at all.
I wish it was her staying and Chibnall going, though.

The Sun is reporting on it as well. Whilst I will say that I'm waiting for an 'official' announcement, if it's true, I'll actually be genuinely sad to see her go... ('Never thought I'd say that the day she was announced!)
