There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

So my home state of South Australia just got the announcement in the news about 15 mins ago. They let someone "in" from interstate/overseas on compassionate grounds.. Immediately tested positive. We have had 1 case in 32(ish) days, we are in solid lockdown but not as fully lockdowned like New Zealand.. So frustrating, it only takes 1 :-( We had 6 in the last 24 hours, all from the one ship. Just proves that what most states were doing works.

Today, one of my colleagues who I had contact with every day for the past weeks was admitted to the hospital with high fever, chest pain and breathlessness. Her test is underway. Since our company is the employer, we could not do the test ourselves and it was sent to a different lab. Now we all have to wait for the result.
Of course it could NOT be COVID. We all hope so.
But this basically threw a spanner in everybody's plans for the next days. I have the day off tomorrow (to make up for my weekend duty) and will most likely spend the day on my lovely balcony in anxious isolation. And I may or may not travel home for the long weekend this week (my mum will be having an outdoor birthday dinner for the family). Of course if the colleague is tested positive, I will not go. Which is a bummer since I have not seen my family for months now- last time was my nieces birthday on the 25th of February (back in a time when all was normal, so long ago).
I repeat again- I am SO MUCH over the whole thing. It causes nothing but grief and bad temper (especially at work).

Sigh of relief- my colleague tested negative. This means I can visit my family for the long weekend. I hope my colleague gets better soon!

Looks as if FedCon 2020 has been postponed to 9th-11th of October. Still not sure this will happen this year. However, I will try and change the booking with my hotel. And if this convention gets cancelled for this year, I think I will still travel to Bonn and just do a nice city holiday. Just so that the hotel does not miss out. And so that I will at least will travel some place else this year. We will see.

Well, after this week, I think some more of my 'bright spots' are in order: Joining the queue of possible covid drugs is good ol' ibuprofen, for respiratory problems as it's anti-inflammatory. The trial is being handled by King’s College London and Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital, and if it works, could cut down cases developing into more severe ones and take pressure off ICUs: news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-ibuprofen-tested-as-treatment-to-reduce-covid-19-symptoms-11999589www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200604/uk-scientists-test-ibuprofen-as-covid-19-treatmentMore news from the Oxford vaccine, as partners Astrazeneca increase production capacity to 2 billion, with 100 million marked for the UK: www.theguardian.com/business/2020/jun/04/astrazeneca-doubles-capacity-for-potential-covid-19-vaccine-to-2bn-doseswww.sciencefocus.com/news/coronavirus-manufacturing-begins-on-millions-of-doses-of-the-oxford-vaccine-candidate/Meanwhile, Moderna Inc, whose vaccine has shown immunity creation, is moving to Phase 2 trials, with P3 marked for July. If it's like the others and goes well, it could pop up by year's end: www.clinicaltrialsarena.com/news/moderna-phaseii-vaccine-trial/Alongside discoveries about blood clots and T-cells, scientists in the Netherlands have also discovered Vitamin K deficiencies in Covid patients. K can be found in foods like spinach, eggs, blueberries and hard cheeses, among others, and is involved with clotting and helping lungs and vessels. Now looking to expand into further research trials but hey, maybe having a spinach quiche here and there in the meantime couldn't hurt: www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/06/doctors-find-link-between-covid-19-complications-and-lack-of-vitamin-k/www.theguardian.com/science/2020/jun/05/vitamin-k-could-help-fight-coronavirus-study-suggests

Sorry. It's a clotting regulator, so anti was completely the wrong word.

Anyone know what happened to causality? He's deleted his account He had awful stress at work. He works as a head nurse at a hospital. I think everything just became too much. From what he described the situation became close to unbearable.
He just went and was gone. I hope he is alright. But he has left the forum before, and eventually came back, so I keep my hopes up he will be back when he feels better. Maybe, if he is lurking- I am thinking of him.

As shops start up, I imagine there are worries. However, I'm here with some bright spots: Global recovery rate is at 4,252,432, close to ten times the death rate. More people are getting better than not: www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-cases/www.statista.com/statistics/1087466/covid19-cases-recoveries-deaths-worldwide/Joining the vaccine race is Imperial College London, who are beginning human trials: www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/16/coronavirus-vaccine-trial-by-imperial-college-london-beginswww.imperial.ac.uk/news/198314/imperial-begin-first-human-trials-covid19/Astrazeneca, who are working with Oxford on their vaccine, are also hard at work on antibody therapy that, apparently, is close to a breakthrough: www.itv.com/news/2020-06-07/vaccine-scientists-on-verge-of-antibody-treatment-for-most-vulnerable/
And now, the cherry on the cake: scientists at Oxford have found the first drug that can properly fight Covid, in the form of common rheuma drug Dexamethasone:

I generally post while visiting my mother at weekends but with lockdown and social distancing I have not visited since March. This week I'm here using the social bubble rules (equiped with a face mask) though it may be a while before I'm back every week.
By an odd coincidence, on the Tuesday at the beginning of lockdown I was sick with some bug but it did not have the covid symptoms so probably something else. One day in bed, the rest of the week recovering. Following week, back to the office - I'm in payroll and our customers include councils, police forces, a major retail chain which was still open, etc - so still work to do with new rules for statutory sick pay and furloughing to be coded. tested and fixed plus the "usual" problems like Scottish teachers getting a month's negative pay because they had a pay rise in April (!??). It was spooky in an almost empty office with the majority of people working from home and I couldn't because I don't have home internet. On Thursday they finally located the 4Gee thingamy for me to work from home and in the afternoon started taping off my wing because one of the cleaners had been off the previous night with a cough. Since then, I've been working from home. I am allowed some personal use of the company's internet but it does not include posting on forums so I've been lurking here every day.
