With the 'touch all bases' nature of the project, its getting all a bit Sky Ray ice lollies to me at least. A good gallery to be found here: thespacemuseum.net/1967-galleryBasically, in 1967, you had to buy the ice lollies from the Ice Cream Van Man to get the free picture cards, which you then stuck into the story book sold separately and it was promoted in the cinema: Alternatively, was the 15 part story 'Doctor Who fights Masterplan Q' the first true instalment of TLV? (you can see all 15 exciting episodes on the Space Museum website here): thespacemuseum.net/1971-galleryAgain, you had to collect all 15 Nestle Chocolate Bar wrappers to assemble the complete story. Daleks in one story and the Master in the other, not a lot has changed in 50+ years of cross platform promotion. And yes, Crosse & Blackwell did do a tinned spaghetti promotion once too.

I must say I don't really understand the criticism. If you're not interested in Time Lord Victorious at all, then that's fine; it's easy to miss as much as any other piece of merchandise. We've been told every single release is its own standalone piece and we know that the actual Time Lord Victorious aspect of the story are the two novels paired with The Waters of Mars.
I'd say it's perhaps the way it's been marketed, as it's arguably less a story and more of a setting, but I do think the BBC Studios team have been as clear as can be about how you can enjoy each story on its own, so I'm not sure it's that.
It's certainly nothing like the above example, that's for sure. And less time taken to research than it would to have weaved together the post would have told you that.

Interesting release on Amazon: Doctor Who - Time Lord Victorious Road To The Dark Times [Blu-ray] [2020]Apparently out on the 9th November. There's nothing new, except a "bonus booklet", but it's a compilation of Doctor Who stories containing legends of the Dark Times, the Dalek Empire and the Time Lord Victorious: • Planet of the Daleks • Genesis of the Daleks • The Deadly Assassin • State of Decay • The Curse of Fenric • The Runaway Bride • The Waters of Mars I quite like the idea to be honest. Seems a great opportunity to get fans on board with Doctor Who merchandise, it's a cracking run of stories and it's quite a nice compilation to have; I love the cover. So, I get how Genesis, Decay and Mars fit in... Planet's been confirmed to tie into Daleks! and I guess Assassin's connection is just Rassilon/Time Lords... But do you think the Racnoss and Fenric are just in there for their "Dark Times" connection or are they going to be involved somehow??

But do you think the Racnoss and Fenric are just in there for their "Dark Times" connection or are they going to be involved somehow?? I suspect it’s their Dark Times connection. Each story, both in the BluRay collection and the TLV project overall, will lean into The Dark Times or Time Lord Victorious at the least, but some may fit into both. For example, Monstrous Beauty as a standalone story would link into The Dark Times and State of Decay. But where that takes the Ninth Doctor will lead into All Flesh is Grass, which is more the TLV aspect. So essentially all of it is The Dark Times and then you have Time Lord Victorious within that. Certainly means everything is worth a re-play/read/listen!

Master Thief / Lesser Evils - I'm not really much of a listener of the 'Short Trips', but I enjoyed these two well enough during my walk around town.
Defender Of The Daleks (1) - I've still got a few pages left, bu so far am finding it nothing world-shattering, but it's... Alright, I guess? (I've just pre-ordered part 2 from Forbidden Planet, so will save my 'full' judgement for when it arrives at some point next week)
My copy of 'The Knight, The Fool And The Dead' (finally) arrived at Waterstones today, so I will be making a start on that later this evening.

Technically they could also have included Enlightenment and the Infinite Quest as part of the DVD collection. The latter’s link with the event would be rather tenuous I will agree considering that it’s only link is that the titular ship is stated to be a relic of the Dark Times, but I’m surprised the former isn’t included. It does have The Eternals after all.

I suppose the real reason is the selection they’ve picked are bigger contributions to the Dark Times / Time Lord Victorious, are well thought of and all have BluRay releases.

The Secrets of Time Lord Victorious #3 is in the newsletter sent out this afternoon. Which seemingly confirms Brian belongs to the ‘Lesser Order of Oberon’ and that the first Eighth Doctor Audio will explain how he ended up in the Dark Times. It also has some details on Mordeela, which will be familiar to those who have read The Knight, The Fool and The Dead.

I finished off Defender of the Daleks earlier. It’s very... Titan in a nutshell. Jumps from moment to moment, the conclusion comes from nowhere and it’s usually some technobabble with the sonic. They do great stuff, but I’ve found that it’s not usually individual stories that leave lasting impressions, rather the overall run of stories. For example, Ten, Gabby & Cindy or Eleven’s bonkers TARDIS team in his first couple of years. There’s nice stuff in there, such as the Doctor’s foreshadowing of his Time Lord Victorious self and the concept of the Dalek Prime Strategist. It just doesn’t quite add up to anything substantial. The slow first issue didn’t really help, as some of us acknowledged last month, as that killed a lot of momentum and probably contributed to jumping from moment to moment in the second issue. It didn’t help that I think I’m missing a page bang in the middle! I’ve got half of what is clearly a double page spread that goes straight into a full page of the Doctor talking to the Hond! I also thought the Dalek station was oddly designed; not Dalek-y at all, very generic sci-fi, in fact. It’s nice to see the Thirteenth Doctor appear given her lack of involvement in this project. It’s a shame that it comes out of nowhere and is fleeting, though.
And I’m guessing the final page leads us into the Eighth Doctor trilogy from Big Finish.

Just finished reading 'The Fool, The Knight & The Dead'. Whilst at 178 pages, it's a little... 'Light', it was certainly a fun and enjoyable read.
Only (checks wrist) nine more weeks to go until 'All Flesh Is Grass'!

I finished "The Fool, the Knight and the Dead". Finally we get some meat on the bones of this special event. This novel basically introduces the main players and especially the villains (?). Plus, the 10th Doctor is at his most arrogant and superior, right after the episode where he declared himself the Time Lord Voctorious, Lord of all Time.
My main gripe was that "science" used in this is complete and utter BS, and it even calls itself out on that, "call it science, call it Dark Time magic". In my opinion, they should therefore have cut back on the "techno"babble a bit and just waved about some magic wands and got on with the action. But it is Doctor Who, so I guess it needs to have some semi-scientific words thrown in, stringed together in a random manner. And I need to be in the mood for that, when I am not, I just get frustrated.
The story itself... the book is not very long, barely 200 pages, so you could finish it in a single evening if you wanted to. So the story cannot help but feel a bit "light", despite the supposed "epic" material. In the end, this was an entertaining run around, spiced up a bit by a 10th Doctor, who is very close to the edge of being a villain himself. Which makes for a nice change. Plus, the book ends on a cliffhanger (kind of) leading straight into the next book... and at least I am captivated enough to be curious how this will develop further.
So, taken into account the pretty lightweight Titan comics and this... I am not exactly disappointed by this special event so far, but it also has not quite reached my expectations yet.
I still keep my hopes up that Big Finish is there to save the day, so to speak.

After reading the first book and listening to the two short trips, I am kinda "meh" about this. The book was okay, but didn't leave me really caring about this story line. The short trips didn't really grab me either. It might be as simple as my needing to take a break from DW, call it overdose syndrome if you will, or it could just be that this honestly isn't that great of a storyline. I think it will take another story or two, but so far I would say that of the recent 10th Doctor releases, Out of Time was far more enjoyable for me.

And the winner for the best Time Lord Victorious production is..... The Musical!. Coming to the West End & Broadway. (Two Metre social distancing rules apply, even in the stalls). (via @andrewstorr5 on Twitter)

You could just get All Flesh is Grass and be happy having done the actual Time Lord Victorious piece of the project and form your opinion from there. If that grabs you, then the obvious next step would be to then dip into the Eighth Doctor Big Finish trilogy (and Echoes of Extinction) and Monstrous Beauty from DWM. If it doesn’t, then you’ve experienced the TLV itself and you’ve got a bunch of extra stuff you know you can avoid. On the flip side, everything is standalone so there’s no reason why you couldn’t enjoy them in their own right. I suppose that’s part and parcel of these crossover projects really; you try a couple of them and if it’s not your cup of tea it forms your view of the rest. When in reality you could take away the TLV branding and you’ve got a glut of new Who content to dip in and out of, as fans do.
