Been following Carley's Youtube channel for years. He's always been talented, but this feels next-level. So happy for him, and so excited to get more War stories!

I think the voice varies between John Hurt from 1979 and 2013, but it’s very much John Hurt and rather staggering how close Jonathan Carley is. Great trailer and looking forward to the set. Which feels like a great fit for the Young War Doctor, honestly! Given that his one line was voiced by 2013 Hurt but he looks like the 1979 one!

I'd never heard about Jonathon Carley before, except for "Doctors Assemble!" What else has he done ?

Good to see they’re following through on the idea that the War Doctor has a great deal of ambiguity regarding his motives. At least from the perspective of the Time Lords.

Well, if you are on the fence regarding this release there is a huge write up in the latest Vortex that might just sway you.. I am excited for these releases.

Yeah, the write up of this in Vortex is really good. Very curious to see who the Shadow Squad are.

Is there anything in the Vortex write up about why Ohila has been recast? Did Higgins not want to return?

Is there anything in the Vortex write up about why Ohila has been recast? Did Higgins not want to return? No mention, unfortunately. I think we have to assume that she was unable to record and Big Finish felt she wasn’t a substantial enough character to hold off on and could recast, especially given the lead is essentially a recast too. Higgins has read for Doctor Who BBC Audios, and I think a story featured Ohila, so I don’t think it’s a case of not wanting to return. It is a shame, as I am fond of the character and Higgins’ portrayal. I’m glad that it’s not a completely recast range, though, as it first appeared to be when they’d first announced the set!

Is there anything in the Vortex write up about why Ohila has been recast? Did Higgins not want to return? I'm curious about that too. It's strange because Higgins has done previous Doctor Who audio work. Perhaps it was due to not being able to record remotely? Or she just didn't want to return perhaps. It's a shame because I enjoyed Higgins' performance as Ohila on the show.

I know recasts in general can be a touchy subject. Personally I go back and forth on it myself, but I really liked this take from David Richardson regarding the younger War Doctor and will be curious to check this out:

Ha, that’s something! When Carley was first announced for this, I followed him on Twitter and found him talking about filling John Hurt’s shoes — and I (supportively) made the exact same Alec Guinness/Ewan McGregor comment to him. He seemed to appreciate it 🙂

I probably won't get to this one for a while - because I'm building towards a big Time War catchup/relisten and this (and probably Vol 2 or 3 by the time I get to it) will fit right in - SO this might be the rare time I actually check out the newsletter excerpt as an extended preview!

Well based on the Excerpt Johnathan Carley's certainly accurate

The excerpt is very good. Carley is brilliant and there’s some interesting concepts already posed. I like that the War Doctor gets straight into things and there’s no post-regeneration craziness, which has a time and place, but it doesn’t feel appropriate for him. I’m also interested by Ohila’s interaction with Gallifrey and how it seems the Doctor’s turn was planned; that’s a really good idea and I’d be happy to see where that leads.
I’d say the weakest link is Veronica Roberts as Ohila. I don’t think it’ll bother many, but I’m fond of the character and of Clare Higgins, so that Roberts doesn’t quite capture that is a touch noticeable to my ears.
