This has been a real treat: possibly (probably) because I'm so aware the Monthly Range is coming to an end, I'm relishing these releases more than usual. And this is easy to relish - steeped in atmosphere, a range of truly fruity characters (Vivien Reid's Janet MacKenzie couldn't be more Scottish if her every utterance was heralded by bagpipes. Actually, for all the OTT qualities of MacKenzie, Reid's other character Dr. Godec is sometimes curiously flat). Nice to hear Jon Culshaw's softened-with-age Brig again (this was set after Battlefield), especially in a world of emails and wi-fi - he had enough trouble with modern technology in Minuet in Hell. His pairing with Sylvester is great - No-one could growl 'Oh, that would be lovely' like The Seventh Doctor. I like that writer Lizbeth Myles has retained the ever-so-slight fractiousness between Alistair and The Doctor.
Rumours of hauntings, mentions of the Yeti. Tension-drenched lines lines like "Out there ... in the snow ... something's watching us." These could sound like foreboding horror cliches to some, but I love this kind of stuff. Echoes to lines of dialogue in times gone by. There's a good scene at the start of episode three when the Doctor is either avoiding giving an explanation or genuinely losing his marbles.
Possibly the plot line is stretched a little thinly across the episodes and things are sometimes slow moving, especially if you listen to this story in one 'go', but I have no real problem with that. There's plenty of time to breathe in the chill air and sip a steaming cup of tea. I love the slightly dialled-down Ace, and her partnership with Kirsty (Lucy Goldie) is a highlight - as is The Brigadier, who shines here. He's surprisingly on top of things, especially the (pretty huge) Big Reveal.
And the last scene is a cracker.

Agree with lsat scene...it is fun and will have a few members pulling their hair out in frustration. I am glad you felt Ace had dialled down a notch,I liked it a more calm a more assured more ladylike a take I think, couldn’t actually picture her in the bomber jacket for this as shown on the cover. Giving it a wee relisten on my coffee break. A Scottish Doctor in a Scottish setting, very comforting.

I really am loving the relisten it helps I suppose that earlier I could see the snow on the mountains in the distance and the hills and it’s cold...amazing on second listen I haven’t been able to fault Jon Culshaw and am loving that Sylvester can do Gaelic and he isn’t hamming the performance up lol...all eerie winds and crunching snow -perfect Would it kill you to use the edit button and add to your last post? Given that you aren't responding to anyone other than yourself, these repeated postings are completely unnecessary.

Could that not have been dealt with slightly better! Agreed. It wasn't the most courteous request. It was handled extremely poorly, and completely unnecessary, I think the guy is owed an apology. The correct way to deal with that would have been via a PM. Certainly no way to moderate.

ssshhhhhh never criticise a mod, don't you realise they are untouchable...... As a moderator coffeeaddict has a responsibility to act correctly, the title doesn't give him/her the right to be rude to anyone. And if that sort of moderation is considered acceptable then there is certainly something very wrong with how this place is run.

You are right of course, but everyone makes mistakes - maybe due to annoyance or mood - so let's cut coffeeaddict a bit of slack. Causality seems a good chap and I'm sure it wont stop him posting...or indeed replying to himself (which of course is the first sign of madness)

It's not about an individual, anyone on here could be in line for this sort of ignorant remark from a moderator.

If there is one, it is not really my business anyway, so maybe not to be aired in public as it were.

Let’s not be too hasty in demanding a public apology. For all we know, it could have been done privately via PM.

I’m not condoning what coffeeaddict did and to be honest I suspect it was merely done out of a brief moment of frustration rather then being deliberately malicious. But at the end of the day, if he has apologised whether it be publicly or done privately then the matter is closed in my book and we can all move on.

I do think it's best that we all move on. It appears, from his response to coffeeaddict's comment, that causality took the comment with good humor and in the spirit in which it was intended (which was not mean-spirited, but just a request to think before you post). And keep in mind that if you are posting multiple thoughts in a row, it is often better to just edit your prior comment than to keep making multiple posts (in a sort of stream of consciousness, if you will ). There is more than one person on this forum who is guilty of doing that and we'd prefer if you make use of the edit button in those cases, rather than hitting "reply" for a new post multiple times in a row. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter. Back to your regular thread.
