current standings 1 - The Spectre of Lanyon Moor -1750 2 - The Juggernauts - 1640 3 - Static - 1501 4 - Emissary of the Daleks - 1335 5 - the Holy terror - 1206 6 - The One Doctor - 1116 7 - Pier Pressure - 1051 8 - Jubilee - 1042 9 - Davros - 754 10 - Dr Who & the Pirates - 650 (only one of the 4 I voted for is in there) equal last place with 30 votes are The Brood of Erys, The Acheron Pulse and Recorded Time I wonder what Colin makes of these polls? He's not a fan of them is he? I can partially understand it, in this case especially - once more 'fans' (only a minority, mark you, but fans nevertheless) sabotage something to make a point, which isn't worth making (IMO, of course - maybe I'm just not seeing it). 'Let's get Pier Pressure into the top 10 - that'll be an amazing laugh!' And so there it is.
Having said that, I actually really like Pier Pressure, and the Brood of Erys too, so what do I know? His only response to it so far was asking why The Last Adventure not included. (Just wasn’t clear that it was strictly for the monthly range)

To misquote him, he made some reference (possibly on This is Colin Baker, can't readily remember) to 'who is your favourite Doctor? Why not ask which is your favourite finger?' - or something along those lines. He put it more amusingly than that!

I have to say that I really have no problem with Pier Pressure getting a decent accumulation of votes. Sure, there are a fair few voting because they probably don't like it, but I am sure it has its fans like myself who believe it deserves to rank higher than the lower reaches. Its rather good if you like that kind of thing (which I do, for one).
But yeah, I suspect some are voted for because they have the Brigadier, Davros or the Daleks on the cover. And maybe they are the ones many casual voters go for as they were amongst the few that they have listened to.
Its why we can never have too many Dalek stories, as they always reel them in and keep viewers/listeners happy.
The votes have at least put Static on the wanted list for me as something apparently really good from the latter releases, where I have most of my gaps in the range. Will wait for a CD sale though...

Acheron Pulse is in last place? I know it’s rather been forgotten over the years but I would never call it Big Finish’s worst Sixth Doctor story! Tbf, I would take these rankings with a pinch of salt given that it's being hijacked by GB.

since my last post, the top 10 have changed sequence a little - Static and Pirates up 1 place each to 2 and 9 respectively, while jubilee has gone up 3 places to 5 with 3103 votes for Spectre
the last place tiles are up to 33 votes along with Absolute Power

To be honest, if I were in Mr Baker’s position I probably wouldn’t even bother looking at them. He’s still the Doctor at the end of the day so even if not every story featuring his incarnation is to everyone’s taste it really changes nothing. Still very interesting to look at from our perspective after all. Personally, I treat them as a sort of Rorschach inkblot test (or a much more primitive Randomoid Selectotron). The shape is fundamentally arbitrary, but the stimuli received from them isn't. I'll be seeking out The Lady of Mercia again after the Fifth Doctor poll and I popped on a couple episodes of Emissary of the Daleks yesterday while working. You know, it has been a while since I've listened to The Spectre of Lanyon Moor, I should probably remedy that...

I was looking at polls and thought which one would I like to get a cheap download on..therefore I would if I was inclined go for more recent releases as earlier ones are already dirt cheap

Never mind the Daleks, what about the greatest villain who ever sailed with Cap'n Sixie, the fearsome Evil Evelyn!
'They call me Evil Ev-e-lyn, I am a pirate genuine. I've sailed the ocean all my days, practicing my pirate ways.'

There's been a bit of a silly game going on today - competing to get either Spectre or Terror in front of each other. 300 votes each in the space of half an hour, that sort of thing, whilst putting some distance between the top five and runners up. I think they gained about 1500 votes this morning. Great traffic for ad-revenue though. On a different note - just seen this promotional tweet from BF. I know they are going with the slimmed down box set route, but this is a bit of a creative retro-labelling as a 'Box Set' for sure..

I guess we can retroactively consider all those ‘and Other Stories’ monthly adventures box sets as well then?

I suppose the BF social media guy will be labeling all of the Doctor Who 'Main Range' releases as epic two/three/four part box sets eventually!

Hello all hail the big talking bird again,
Well my choices were The Juggenauts, The Holy Terror, The Pirates, Masters of Earth and The Doomwood Curse.
One of the biggest shocks I've had listening to Big Finish was the end of episode 2 of The Pirates. I still haven't recovered from episode 3.
Oh and Stevo, all hail the big talking bird...

To be fair, the word "epic" lost its sting somewhat in the early 2000s when it joined the ranks of adjectives like "super", "groovy" and "radical" (then again, "this groovy four-parter"? Hmm. I mean... If it's a 3DA...). Thank you, Frobisher fans, for your show of support to the World Whifferdill Fund, helping to keep polymorphs on a steady pension between paid jobs. Your copy of the Galactic Reader's Digest is in the mail.

Well, on the plus side, I now have a considerably larger collection of 'Big Finish Box Sets' on the shelf. Apparently. ( takes a look - nah, still just loads compact case two disc CD's after all). I think the marketing chap needs to check the run-times, maybe they assumed it was a double release? Changing the subject slightly, but as with the likely Colin Baker poll results, it's a case of having just the one item I do not already have this and Static). At 50% off, I will await the chance to get the physical copy in on the deal at the same reduction at a later date. Otherwise its a future double dip.

'It's groovy cool and fab, right Doctor?!' 'I'm terribly sorry Jo, the TARDIS translation facility appears to be malfunctioning, I can't understand a word you're saying...' 'Oh Doctor you are a tease!' 'Yes, aren't I? '
