This looks like it might be more serialised than the last few releases, which is something I've been hoping for. *Very* strong line-up of writers too.

Look like the trend of dropping the numbering is happening here as well

And with an October release, it looks like we’ll be getting some appropriately spooky stories to mark the Halloween season.
Which is always nice.

My initial reaction was a tut when I saw another gimmick attached. However, the description does read as something more serialised with a recurring cast, which has been lacking since Series 4, so that's a welcome return. Great varied choice of writers too so I remain optimistic.
It looks like the subtitles from the Doctor sets are making their way to the spin-offs too, with the recent Missy, Jenny and now River announcements. They're doing some quick turnarounds recently!

I'd still like to see River get her own recurring supporting cast and more of an arc, but this is a great standalone box premise.

Couldn't agree more. Saw the email ping through at work and I thought "Again?", but I think this shows the value of recasts - it gives a much broader pool of (for lack of a better term) gimmicks to use. There's a fine line between a gimmick and making a story as marketable as possible. I think BF are adapting to that well, better than I feared when - for one - it seemed River was more of McGann's foil than Smiths!

Great to see the arcs are back the standalone weren’t really enticing to me at all in a way this is. And i really don’t mind when a gimmick is used because it fits the story, not a story being crafted around a gimmick. The premise is River is a new recruit in the army, the gimmick is its unit and the brig and liz are there. Thats much more palatable than River is being put into prequels and sequels to doctor who episodes for the lulz, or here she is with a bunch of robots.
I swear to everything thats holy though, if they put in one more goddamn 70s/80s joke. We get it, its the same joke every time stop it pleasee (no offence mark 😁😂)

I am finding now that (with any range boxset) I scan immediately to the bottom to confirm if it's 3 or 4 stories ($).. Anyone else do this now?

Wonder if we’ll get a cameo by the Third Doctor in this? Even if it’s just him arriving after River has left and asking what he’s missed.

Surely the Doctor will be in this; it's set after 'Inferno', so it's not as if he could have got very far. if they were planning to do a Doctorless series with the Brig and Liz, then pre-Spearhead would have been an option (there's stuff there to explore, as anyone who remembers Hamlet Macbeth will recall)
