Dumping all my thoughts/prredictions here.
Next series of Doctor Who is going to be like Broadchurch. Cliffhangers, one main mystery, loads of clues, speculation between episodes, ending a biut "meh".
Jodie won't do Big finish, won't go near the character again for years, if ever, after all the slagging she's got.
(If Big finish do get the Thirteen era license it'll be Dr Ruth and Sacha Master stories. And The New Adventures of The Pting box set.)
The next series will be co-produced by an outside production company (e.g. Bad Wolf, Red, Sister Pictures) and invested into by another platform (e.g. HBO, Netflix, Amazon).
There won't be one showrunner, just exec producers and a team of writers. Maybe a head writer will be assigned by producers.
There'll be another gap year between Jodie's exit special and the 60th anniversary special... which will be a clean slate reintroduction to the series like Rose was.
They'll start making the new series while Chris and Jodie are finishing the old one.

I’m really intrigued to see how Series 13 - with it all being one story - and the trilogy of specials pan out. Chibnall’s comments about a “three series and out” pact with Jodie to me implies a grand plan. I think we’ve seen that to a degree with Series 12, but not with Series 11 and ultimately that’s a third of the era; feels as though you’d get the ball running sooner when you’ve only got a finite amount of time. That’s not a slight on Series 11 - I actually quite like it, though I do think it was broadcast in the wrong order - but it does feel more throwaway in comparison to Series 12’s arc and what we’ve been told about Series 13. I see Series 11 as quite an important part of the plan - after a high amount of continuity had smothered much of Steven Moffat's final few series (not a complaint, just an observation), I felt that Series 11 was a kind of reset. Everything, or nearly everything, was new. Even the returning naughty boy in the finale was a product of Series 11, and I quite liked that self-contained feel. Having achieved that, CC then went all out to reintroduce the Master and all the business on Gallifrey in the following series.

Didn't Chris Chibnall speak of a "five year plan" when he took over? I'd bet Covid got in the way of that. The "three series and out" pact sounds like retconning.

At least until they announce some other virtue signaling woke idiot is going to be in charge. Are we seriously still talking like this in 2021? Come on. Yep, that's stcoop. Idiotic comment but true to form.

Not sure about that, a very vocal minority on social media probably pales into insignificance against all the fan love she's had. If she does decide to return on audio it won't be for a while. People leave a role because they want to do something new.

Yeah I don’t remember a five year plan ever coming from anywhere concrete like an interview or something, just it suddenly being something

He said in DWM and Comic Con he pitched a 5 year plan to the BBC up to the 60th and then independently said he wanted Who back on a regular annual schedule...that "three series and out" seems like spin at best, being allowed to cover up for a decision perhaps not entirely in his or Jodie's hands. It would not be the first Doctor, even in the new series, who was "invited to leave" even while the official line was they were asked to stay. Frankly them leaving together will lead to more speculation than if it was just one.

Like I don't see the announcement about a new generation as smokescreen for cancellation, I don't think one can treat this like a potential firing: if the BBC were really that unhappy, there's no logic in committing to the inflated expense of another series and several specials with said creative team. I said a year back when the rumour first surface: Covid may well have made Jodie re-evaluate and decide that the huge pressure and workload wasn't worth it when weighed against not being with her family, especially after the pandemic. Filming likely only cemented that, and I imagine Chibnall might very well have been exhausted by the extra workload.
Whatever you feel about this era, good or bad, I don't think anyone could begrudge Jodie or him that.

Although by next year, it will have been five years. Just three series. rts.org.uk/article/chris-chibnall-man-who-reinvented-cliffhanger

“We will announce plans for the new generation of Doctor Who in due course – watch this space!” the BBC said.
That's not them saying they'll just carry on with a new series showrunner and Doctor immediately after Chris and Jodie leav.e

I hope that doesn't mean a rushed conclusion - we saw how that worked out for Game Of Thrones where 5 seasons worth of story were told in 2. We can but wait and see. As for the inside story...there are enough credible insiders that we should get some news in the not too distant future.

I have enjoyed the difference, one season of fresh new stories with no continuity. One seasons with old favourites & a shake up to the show. & now, probably through circumstance not design, a seasos with one story followed by a couple specials. For me it does make it quite a distinct era of the show & hopefully it will end on a big epic note.

So, does Tussauds have a waxwork of Jodie that they can lend out for 2023?

I got the impression that he got reined back in by those higher above. He seemed to want to make a clean break from the continuity and formulaic nature of past series, but was perhaps advised to serve up more of the viewer and fan pleasing roster, such as Daleks, Cybermen, The Master, etc. The Timeless Children was perhaps a conscious effort at iconoclasm designed to open things up further in the face of being hemmed in creatively. Whether one likes what he did or not, I can entertain the possibility that he wanted to reinvent the series and found the ceiling was rather lower than he hoped.

Any thoughts on who should play the 14th Doctor. My pick would be Nicholas Ralph.
