This is great news!
Ok, so I'll be the first to ask the obvious question . . . do I need to watch the TV show before starting the audios?

This is great news! Ok, so I'll be the first to ask the obvious question . . . do I need to watch the TV show before starting the audios? Not really, although they're recommended viewing. All you need to know about the 'backstory' is in the voice-over during the title sequence. The First story The Passenger is a homage to several TV stories and sets the tone very nicely before the ... no, it's better not to say!

I've just looked at the cast lists. Not to cast aspertions on any of BF's other cast lists, but these are extraordinary.

I've rather moved on from listening to Audio Dramas the last couple of years, but in the decade before that I rather devoured the BF content. Including some CD-only titles and paid for USA shipping. S&S was one of them. I just looked at my order history. May 31 2014, nearly 10 years ago, I paid 84.03 for the 15 titles. Also bought the 4 CD Season One of of the DWCCs. Combined USA shipping was 28.57. Shipping rates were more reasonable back then, and added about 1.50 USD per CD. That works out to around $106.50 at that time.
So when I noticed the email from BF about this series I thought was long gone... I did as above, and have a look at my account, but nothing new there.
I liked the series, thought it could have gone on further. But after dropping over 100 bucks on it in the past, will I double dip for a few minutes of extras? Sorry... but no.
I am happy that these are available again for those who haven't heard this series.

I’d be surprised if there is a prohibition on BF gifting free downloads to whoever they wished under the current licence if they so chose. I assume that the real issue is that BF has to pay some amount under the licence for each ‘sale’, and they don’t feel they can bear the cost of this. In practice for BF I guess it amounts to much the same thing, but I do just wish they’d try not to suggest that “we’d do it is we could, but phhht lawyers, eh”.

There was a comparator given of the old Gallifrey series. but that, unlike this, was an internal series. Here a licence with very specific terms must be adhered to. So I'd say they're not "suggesting" that if only for the lawyers we'd do it, they're saying exactly that because those are the facts.

I'm thrilled about this! It will make listening to these on the go so much easier! I look forward to hearing them all again, this time with the extras.
