According to the latest Podcast Big Finish went to a marketing team and they came up with "For The Love of Stories" as "We Love Stories" felt like it would be confusing for new listeners (or something among those lines) and yeah they wanted it to be more inclusive so Briggs and co went with it (they also changed the BF Twitter social media to Big Finish insider
(I'm not asking this question specifically of you, your post simply lends the context for it) Call me thick, but how on earth is "For the Love of Stories" less confusing than "We Love Stories"? We Love Stories is one of the most basic sentences in the English language - it means they love stories! The fact that there's even been a discussion on this forum about how we don't understand the new slogan, due its ambiguity over the phrase generally being used in exasperation, surely makes the whole idea behind changing it to this even more laughable... After the last "marketing consultation" Big Finish undertook with regards to the new website ("people like scrolling"...), I think it's about time they started consulting somebody else for their future marketing. Apparently according to them "We Love Stories" is a Statement of Intent directed to an already receptive Audience "For the Love of Stories" is a more gentle Invitation to a wider general Audience. Regards mark687

It’s not like the original was anything offensive or slightly provocative. It was simple and straight forward. Again, I know sod all about marketing so maybe I’m just being ignorant.

Regards mark687 I didn't study marketing, but did do marketing as a pretty big portion of my job for a while and have to say, even from this admittedly limited perspective it's a terrible tagline.

Regards mark687 Well that's the biggest load of bull reasoning I've ever come across, and I've come across a lot of completely bull reasoning. "Directed to an already receptive audience"... And to a phrase that we're discussing being generally used in exasperation is a "more gentle invitation"! I'm never going to understand why this did this. Never.

Can somebody please make a 'For the love of stories' general big finish discussions thread so that this can go back to being about the actual release? I don't mean to be rude, but every time I see an update in this thread I come in and it seems like it's just more arguing about the new slogan, shouldn't that be its own thread? Especially since it has nothing to do with this release aside from being used in it?

Listened to the rest of "Secrets" and it was great fun! It's pacy and exciting and served the regulars and the guest cast well and all were on top form. I don't always like the Tomb style Cyber-voices as they're really tough to understand, but they were used sparingly and effectively. For a release I didn't plan to buy, I am very happy with it so far.

Oh, for the love of Cybermen, was this it?! (See what I did there! )
I finally finished Forty (Vol.1) and overall they were two nice stories.* They are pretty much just comfort food for the trads among us though, as all the right boxes were ticked with two classic era monsters...
There was nothing wrong with Secrets of Telos, although it did drag a bit in the first half - and as we don't know the reason yet for all the timey-wimey jumps in The Doctor's timeline there's still a lot unresolved - but as a background story to the events covered in The Tomb of the Cybermen it did it's job and all of the right nods were there. The story livened up a bit in the second half when we got some nice Cyber-action, which is what we want. Secrets of Telos won't go down as a classic, but it's fairly good. I'll give it a 4/5 in the poll.
God of War was a bit disappointing though... Yes, Ice Warriors trapped in ice, they get freed and want to take over the Earth... (Yawn!) It has been done before of course. However, the actually great idea of an Ice Warrior being a Norse God was really clever. (Didn't an Ice Warrior get compared to a Viking by Jamie in a TV episode?) Making a God out of one of those armoured giants would seem perfectly natural. Alas this story had only two parts so the creative part of story - Ice Warriors and Vikings - was over before anything really deeper could develop. So the 'God of War' just wanted his people and spaceship freed from the ice and we were then left with the unfrozen Ice Warriors killing the females that had dug them out of the ice and normal Ice Warrior service was resumed. Good fun, but I wish God of War had been a bit longer. 3/5
Overall a fun box set with two enjoyable Fifth Doctor stories.
[*Obviously I'm not going to mention the Kamelion story which was fairly dire, so as it was a bonus inclusion and free, I'll just ignore it. Oh hang on... okay then, 1/5.]

I, Kamelion was a mixed bag for me. I appreciated that it did a bit more development than the run of main range stories, which always defaulted to Kamelion being taken over, etc. It’s still quite one note, though, and I’m not sure there was enough story to sustain a full hour. I felt Turlough was quite cruel for the most part too and that took me out a few times. Dan Starkey does a great reading, though, although his Fifth Doctor sometimes sounds like the Third, but he absolutely nails Davison’s breathlessness.
These Interludes have a lot of potential; given more time than a Short Trip without the commitment of the audiobook range. Unfortunately, I, Kamelion doesn’t really take advantage of that.

God of War, another good story. Looking forward to the next set in this release.
(Avoiding Kamelion. I don't want to finish on a downer....)

Am I the only one who liked I, Kamelion? Kamelion always does work better in prose than performance so it worked fine for me. Double Debuts as well Regards mark687

Am I the only one who liked I, Kamelion? I enjoyed it fine enough for sure. Not a huge fan of the character, but the reading and words were both very well done.

Yeah thinking on this for a few days now, I'm unfortunately going to have to call both stories a bit middle-of-the-road for me. Neither one did anything particularly wrong, but I can't say I found either particularly engaging either. 3/5 on both.

I wasn't bowled over by either of them really. Secrets was the better of the two yet those cybervoices were a bit tricky to understand in places. I am one of those who enjoys Tomb but doesn't put it on a pedestal so don't really see the need for there to be so many related stories.
God of War was disappointing. I really enjoy the Ice Warriors and wish they'd be featured a lot more on TV and BF so i was hoping for a lot more than this. Everything had already been done and thats not mentioning possibly the dumbest Grand Marshall in history.
I, Kamelion.........just awful. Dan Starkey did his best with the material but i didn't enjoy a second of it to be honest.

Oh dear, oh dear. Once again proving that social media is nothing more than a poison.
My sentiments exactly Illusive, we’re a decent bunch all things considered.

Hello! So I was made aware of this forum because one of the members (or just lurkers maybe, idk who he is, as shown by the above post) has been launching personal attacks against me on social media over my story (“I Kamelion”), citing this forum’s (by name) dislike of it as a weapon of some kind. I’m 100% that is no reflection upon you all as people, this stuff is professional, not personal after all. (At least I hope!) So I decided to say hello anyway! (At this point it’s closure for me. 😂) I’m very grateful to those who enjoyed it, and I’m genuinely really sorry to those of you who didn’t enjoy it but I very much appreciate you taking the time to listen to it anyway. I am absolutely the least experienced professionally of probably any of the current BF writers (and it definitely shows, I’ll beat ya to that joke ), and for that I can only apologise, and to those who left criticism I will absolutely take that on board for anything else I do in the future. And obviously, I have no grudges against anyone who didn’t like it, that would be stupid. It obviously wasn’t my intention to create a piece that would be so mixed, I don’t think anyone sets out to do that, but all i can and will try to do is improve for the future. So I appreciate the feedback nonetheless! I am personally proud of the piece though for the other elements - I’m thoroughly grateful that Dan have such a marvellous performance, and the music/sound design was grand. On a technical level I’m grateful to have been surrounded by such talents! Anyway, sending my very best, keep safe.

IMO Kamelion is a dodgy character anyway, so any attempt in prose with it is a brave and worthy effort. Also personally I'm intrigued by and looking forward to Peladon in a few weeks. Feel free to drop by anytime. Regards mark687
