I'd rather like that. It'd be a nice shake-up to what's normally expected from a debut regeneration story. It's a pity we don't have the four-part serials anymore because I've always wondered what a regeneration mid-story would look like. Something like The Stolen Earth/Journey's End, only without the regeneration aborted I would imagine. That would've been an interesting twist actually. You have Matt Smith in the midst of his post-regenerative bends getting captured and taken to the Crucible, I wonder what his relationship with Davros would have been straight out of the gate?

As the 11th Doctor once said, 'What's the point in them being happy now if they're going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later'.

I didn't say anything negative so get off your high-horse as you're the least suited person to lecture on forum etiquette imaginable. You've been banned from more forums than a spambot. It's not about being "positive" or "negative" that's stupid. It's about FACTS. I know you don't like those because they prove you wrong so often. The show would need to start filming this month to air in the Autumn. That's the schedule, thats the turnaround. Series 8 and 9 both started filming in January. We've heard from Michael Pickwoad that the production proper won't start untill May this time. You say "an unreliable source" - he's the main production designer of the show! I'm pretty damn sure he knows what months he's been contracted for. Though I'm sure he'd be delighted to be called unreliable. We also know from interviews only last month that Moffat said they will MAKE a full run this year but he has no idea when the next series will be on air. You think that would be the case if they were filming this month? He'd know it was the Autumn again. We also know he and Capaldi wanted the show removed from its late timeslot after Strictly Come Dancing to combat the ratings fall. If that's going to happen - how can it happen in 2016? The months before Strictly would be too soon even if filming started tomorrow. We also know from his DWM column that Who production will coincide with the end of Sherlock's - which is happening in April. We also know that the new spinoff Class will finish production before Doctor Who starts and that Moffat is producing that. He's spoken about how non-stop busy he'll be with these three running back-to-back. We also know there's a big gap in the January 2017 Saturday Night slot now that ITV has pinched The Voice from the Beeb. All these unreliable facts and bits of evidence, eh? Just try - once - putting things together and don't tell others how to post or what to think. Believe me - you're in the ultimate glass house and you've got plenty of stones.

Steven Moffat has strongly denied tabloid reports that Doctor Who will run next year with a reduced number of episodes. The denial comes in response to a newspaper story which alleges that next year's series of the BBC1 sci-fi show will be halved so that lead actor Peter Capaldi can turn director on other projects – including a film based on his time in Glasgow punk band The Dreamboys and two episodes of US sitcom Veep. However, speaking to RadioTimes.com, Moffat said that the story was "bunk," and that he could "confirm absolutely" that he is not making fewer episodes. "We’re making a full series. I can confirm that," said Moffat. "I’m making a full series of 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special. I don’t know when it goes out. That’s up to someone else. And even if I did know – which I genuinely don’t – I wouldn’t be allowed to say so as I have absolutely no say in it whatsoever. "[But] it’s not being reduced in size. We’re not making fewer episodes. That’s all complete bunk. I can confirm that absolutely." Rumours of a reduced 2016 series have been swirling for a few months, with Private Eye first reporting in August that in lieu of a full series there will instead be several specials – a la David Tennant's swan song in 2009 – allegedly due to Moffat's commitment to his other series Sherlock, which goes into production next year. Moffat is not the only one denying the claims, though, with Capaldi himself also having responded to a question about the possibility of a shorter series by confirming "That's not what I've been told... that's not what I'm contracted for." www.radiotimes.com/news/2015-11-06/steven-moffat-can-confirm-absolutely-that-there-will-be-a-full-series-of-doctor-who-next-year

Read very carefully what he does and does not say. They are making a full series in 2016. They are not making a handful of specials. They have no idea when said series will air. There is no confirmation here that thete will be a series in 2016, just that the next thimg we get will be a full series and Christmas specual and it will havr been made in 2016. Fits perfectly with a 2016 Christmas special and a January series launch, especially considering an autumn series would require them to be shooting now and they haven't even cast a companion.

"I’m making a full series of 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special. I don’t know when it goes out. That’s up to someone else."
Exactly! By the end of the year there will be a whole series in the can...but crucially there's not time to make and broadcast it all by then unless a) they started shooting NOW (and they're not starting till May) and b)the show stayed in the same slot - Autumn, post-Strictly. A slot that both showrunner and star have actively criticized and a slot that has seen over a million viewers leave the show since Series 8.
Despite what some think above, I don't think it's a "negative" that the show takes some time off this year if it means the show can get back to a 7pm slot where it can be the focus of the evenings entertainment. Series 9 saw it become a cool-down show for viewers who have just sat watching Strictly for 2 hours solid and that's a damn shame. Who should be the flagship of a Saturday night and if it means we don't get it back for a bit longer than normal...fair enough. Short term pain, long term gain.
Besides, it didn't start till September this year. If it aired in January 2017 that's only a few extra months wait. I'm sure we can handle 4 more months wait (especially since we'll still get Christmas). So yeah "No Who in 2016" sounds like a horrible punishment but it really means we just wait a few more months. We'd cope!
What's also not been ruled out by any of the interviews Moffats given is a split series which, personally, I dislike. Just when I'm into a series its over.

This hasn't been confirmed, it has only come from an unreliable source. Can we please stop with the negativity and stay optimistic? Negativity about something that hasn't been confirmed gets nobody anywhere. It's better to have some hope and then be disappointed later if reports turn true. As the 11th Doctor once said, 'What's the point in them being happy now if they're going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later'. Just try - once - putting things together and don't tell others how to post or what to think. Believe me - you're in the ultimate glass house and you've got plenty of stones. If you want to assume the worst, then fine. Go ahead. The 'fact' is, there's no concrete evidence the show will air in January 2017 apart from an already-proven-to-be-unreliable source so there's no reason to say it'll happen. The show could easily start airing late autumn/early winter; it WOULDN'T have to start filming now. They could continue filming whilst episodes air on TV (there is precedent for it, even in the modern age - see Atlantis). Michael Pickwoad isn't the unreliable source I'm referring to, it's the tabloids and Private Eye that people are all basing this off. Michael Pickwoad never said the show won't air until January and Moffat hasn't either. The show moving to a different time of the year will be gradual; there is no way the BBC would want it to be sudden because the show makes them far too much money for there to only be one episode next year. I Also: The Voice gap does not prove it will start in January, it only makes people suspect it will air there. The series could start late November/early December and continue through January. You are all putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. The BBC would never risk a year with only one episode of Doctor Who; in the 1980s maybe but not now.

Regardless....we're getting a Series 10. It will be 12 eps and Christmas and beyond that we only know Capaldi's hinting it will be his last and we'll get a new companion.
If it is his last year, it would perhaps be novel after Tennant and Smith went in Christmas specials if Capaldi left at the end of the series, more like Eccleston did 11 years ago (Christ...time flies). I like the idea of the new guy/gal getting Christmas as a teaser ep to their first full series.
It would also leave open the possibility of Capaldi's last ep to get beamed into cinemas like his first. You can't really do that at Christmas.

If you can wait till early December as you indicate...where's the harm in waiting a few weeks more? January would be one month removed from that. I fail to see - honestly - why December would be fine and January would be an insult/disaster/impossibility. It's what the BBC would find 'fine'. December 2016 would still be in 2016 therefore it wouldn't be a whole year with only one episode. As I said, Doctor Who is the BBC's biggest money-spinner so why risk an entire year without their money-making series?
