Chibnall you mad man.
I guess this means I should actually get The Sea Devils on DVD to find out why people have wanted these villains back so much.

I'm getting ronin vibes from this SD design: nice carry over from the Warriors of the Deep samurai design. Probably the best, or only not terrible thing, in that story.

A synopsis -
“This episode finds the Doctor (Jodie Whittaker), Yaz (Mandip Gill) and Dan (John Bishop) in 19th century China, where a small coastal village is under threat – from both the fearsome pirate queen Madame Ching (Crystal Yu) and a monstrous alien force which she unwittingly unleashes. Will the Doctor, Yaz and Dan emerge from this swashbuckling battle with the Sea Devils to save the planet?”

Well... I wasn't expecting that rumour to be correct. Still, nice to have them back! I was expecting that if they'd ever return they'd have a bit more of an updated design so we'll see if it works on screen...

Haven't watched Eve of the Daleks yet but saw the title of this thread and wow, what a rumour to be right. Historical Chinese pirates x Sea Devils.

Very cool, though I do worry that two white writers aren't the best choice for what I think is TV Who's first story set in an Eastern country(China), though an asian director is good. The Sea Devils look very good, and I imagine I will watch the two classic stories before it airs.

I don't envision any legitimate problems however. It aired 7am here- 10.5 hrs ago, I saw nothing on social media here.

Love the new Sea Devil make-up. A perfect update of the classic design.

About fricking time, the Sea Devils have been underused on both tv & Big Finish.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this news since the return of the Silurians back in 2010! It's been a long, LONG more-than-a-decades'-long wait, but we've FINALLY got the Sea Devils back!!! And they look absolutely authentic and incredible! I'm ecstatic! And overusing exclamation marks! ...Is it Spring yet? !

Ching was the real pirates name. Not sure how you alter that if using a historical character. Over here it is not a slur - but replace the "g" with a "ky" and it is. Pirates Of The Carribean used the same character with no issue.

Hello everyone!
Here's a tease reaction to this special from my upcoming review on 'Eve of the Daleks'.
{Spoiler} I went “Oh yes!” when I saw them. My Dad went “Oh no!” when he saw them! 😀
