Considering how this ending was written before the RTD deal was sorted, I honestly don't think it would've been a bad send off (though of course, it thankfully wasn't. It sort of mirrors Survival's ending (which with 7 being here, must be deliberate), with this optimistic, adventurous quality about future adventures that could be anywhere.

William Russell’s return is officially a World Record.

I just love how understated the guy's delivery is.

I think it’s been a bit of an open secret for a few years. Certainly the last time I saw him, which was in late 2016, he wasn’t in the best form, to the point where he probably shouldn’t have done the event, frankly. Still, he’s done Big Finish and an In Conversation for Season 2 since then and it’s very much a disorder that has good days and bad days. Bless him; truly one of the Who greats.

Huh, what a coincidence it matches so well.

When I rewatched it a few months ago, detached from hype....Dan's exit REALLY doesn't work well. I wish they'd known John had a UK tour booked so couldn't film more than a couple of days. While Vinder's involvement really is just undeserved and a return for a bit of a nothing character.
BUT the rest? Still tremendous fun. It's a bit Five Doctors for me, that as a story it's nowhere near as powerful as it is a big daft celebration.
Imagine in 2018 when Chibnall was saying "new broom, no old monsters, totally newbie friendly" that HE would bring back Ace, Tegan, Mel, Tissue Compression, the classic Docs, McCoys jumper and celery, referencing Aunt Vanessa and Cat-Master and make meta jokes about the Dalek's Master Plan!

Yes. Just like 5 Doctors a proper anniversary special (in all but name of course).
