£23 for the whole first series is an amazing price.
If you are new to Big Finish, this is exactly the type of purchase you'd make. It won't be long till the other three series will be repackaged and I can imagine them doing the same with the 8/Charley monthlies.

I think it’s amazing value in terms of comparing the current download price to the collected price. I don’t think it’s amazing value in terms of trying to get new people on board, which is presumably the intention here. I don’t see someone new being tempted by this if they’re not tempted by the 9DAs, 10DAs, River Song, the many other recent Eighth Doctor sets, etc.
I think Big Finish need to bite the bullet and give something substantial away for free or massively reduced. That’s the only way you’ll get someone who’s previously on the fence to bite the bullet, make the purchase and hopefully get won over.

Marketing strategy makes no sense now, New Single Disc/DL and DL Only Re-releases apparently in response for more cheaper stories but Boxsets and Sales still the bulk of stability. Regards mark687

Its good value I think if you already listen to BF but haven't got round to this yet but if you have never heard of BF would you spend £23 on this? BF really need to sort out their marketing. Just terrible & after all these years still so amateur.

I think it's a great gateway into Classic Who Big Finish. If you are sucked in by 9, 10 or someone like River and get hooked on the format through these. You start reading about the 8th Doctor and wanting to hear some of that... You purchase this (which is incredible value/quantity for money) and then you will naturally branch out further...
Or that may just be me, I started with that first UNIT release in 2015 when they got the licence for new who and was intrigued by the ongoing story that 8 seemed to have. I'd have been very happy (as would my wallet) with a release like this.

I think the key difference there is that they’ve already got sucked into Big Finish via another release and are comfortable with taking the plunge and forking out circa £20 a box set. If they then buy this set, then all they’ve got is a bargain, which is great for them, but it’s not a jumping on point for a new customer, which is what these collections are all about. Also worth noting this series is available for nowt on Spotify and has been for many years now. If they’d given this collection away for free or, say, a fiver and then done the following three series collected at £23 apiece, I think that’d do wonders. Even if it was via DWM and not en masse.

Unless you're already collecting the range on download, I'm not sure why I'd recommend this set to a newcomer over heading to Spotify to listen to these stories basically for free. Maybe if they do this for the other Lucie Miller series, I could see that being a good bargain.
Gorgeous artwork though. If I collected physical releases (and if this was a physical release), I might be tempted to buy just from that alone.

I can understand the idea to repackage the Lucie Miller series into box sets, but I think Big Finish would have been better to split each series into two box sets.
On a virtual market shelf you cannot easily see the quantity in the set, only the price.
£15 for Series 1 Part 1 would seem a very good bargain especially compared to similar sets and being a lower price point would entice more people in to try.
It would also be in keeping with the Further Adventures of Lucie Milker set being the equivalent of four discs.
I always thought the marketing idea of little and often is a better way to get customers to spend.

It definitely feels like they’re gradually piecing together past releases into digital boxsets, and I wonder if these are basically them testing the waters for a much bigger restructuring. It would be really interesting if all the individual releases were repackaged like this at some point.

At this point these are adventures are almost pure profit, so make it look like a serious discount on the lot. Anyway, I was writing and asking for omnibus style releases years & years ago, I’m happy to see them moving in that direction.

Sticking the price up even further is going to get the masses on board, isn’t it? Absolute insanity.

So this release makes for a bit of weirdness w/r/t the Index, as there's already a thread here (ostensibly) to discuss the first series of 8DAs. If it's possible, I'd suggest merging that thread into this one (retaining this thread's title, since odds are this is where most future discussion is gonna take place). Barring that, I'd have to decide to either link to both threads in the Index, which is just... kinda messy, or choose one to omit. Sticking the price up even further is going to get the masses on board, isn’t it? Absolute insanity. Big Finish' whole policy of raising prices after that first week is really baffling to me in general. It's just something (one of many) that really makes it clear they don't give a rat's ass about drawing in new customers. It really only exists to encourage people who are already fans and who already regularly buy audios to keep buying audios, when they're new -- typically before any sort of critical consensus emerges. How many of us wind up buying boxsets that we'd never have touched if we'd waited a bit, to see how others cared for 'em, simply to avoid getting ripped-off by the price-hike? I very much doubt I'm the only one that's happened to... repeatedly. Granted, that's less of an issue with re-released content like in this particular case... but then there's the issue of even the "discounted" price being prohibitive to new fans thinking about dipping their toes into a new range (or format).

Yes BF's marketing strategy is ludicrous. It is a marvel they have lasted so long.
