So because sales drop off for a range BFs solution is to carry on the range under a different title. Not think maybe this concept has come to its natural endpoint. Is there any evidence that sales had dropped off for the range? Not sure about this particular range, & I never mentioned this particular range, but it does happen, according to Nick Briggs himself. As mentioned in this post notthebigfinishforum.freeforums.net/post/367591

I have no investment in River remaining dead or belief that that her having an ending is better than her living on. OK If I like a character, I'd much rather have them live than suffer a 'powerful, beautiful death' (to semi-quote the HBO Game of Thrones Twitter that posted all those "beautiful death" artworks when characters died) for the sake of art. If River and the Doctor both *believed* it was the end, the scene isn't undermined, anyway. To be fully honest, it seems to me like this sentiment mostly happens with female characters' deaths (and that more female characters get these deaths in the first place) and it makes me think of snuff film voyeurism and how men in Victorian times used to pay to look at photos of dead women (like Vanessa points out in the "to be beautiful is to be almost dead" scene in Penny Dreadful). That's why I found the complaints about Clara and Bill surviving and Donna's amnesia not being permanent kind of gross as well as wrong-headed.

Well I stopped buying them after 7, which is similar to the War Master range which I stopped buying after 8.
Really River was more like 8 as well, because I pre-ordered her set with the Tenth Doctor together. But I still haven’t gotten around to listened to that yet.
Perhaps there is a reason Dark Gallifrey is spread over 8 sets.

Some interesting points & it's unfortunate that women get the short end of the stick in this. I don't have an issue with companions not dying however, if the writers didn't clickbait audiences with portents of doom for companions only to never follow through things would be ok.

I agree with what has been said. BF pointlessly undermining the emotional ending of River Song in the TV show. They do not care at this point do they? To be fair…. “The Name of the Doctor” is sent after her death.

Highly unlikely if Karen Gillian agreed to do Big Finish but it would be a welcome one

A lot of clutching at straws there. Karen & Alex are appearing together in a new show, Douglas is Cancelled, written by Steven Moffat. The show was announced and filming at the time the pair were shopping together.
Having said that, pairing River with her family would be wonderful and her interaction with Rachel in Series 2 and 8 are examples of the sort of material we could get. And I’m amazed they’ve never done anything with Brian throughout her range.

He's done plenty of conventions and the likes but is almost always booked as "Harry Potter Star..." so it may not be a role he feels much need to reprise. I too think it's a case of this tweet being 2+2=THE RANI. That Season 5 crew are very, very tight. And if Karen was back as Amy, I'm not sure they'd just tuck it in River's 14th boxset. Though Big Finish did get Michael Palin - for a random Torchwood monthly of all things. So anythings possible.

Quite apart from anything else: If BF did have Karen on board and she'd already recorded for them, I find it very hard to imagine them keeping it under wraps for any length of time. She'd be just about the biggest possible 'get' for the company.

She'd be just about the biggest possible 'get' for the company. I think Jodie would be the biggest. Matt too, of course, though having Jake Dudman means that we've heard a very close approximation at Big Finish. Capaldi may trump both given how much he seems to be against returning to the part.

Jodie doing BF would be welcome, obviously, but also perhaps the least surprising new series regular who hasn't already signed up, given she's openly said at conventions she's interested. Karen is I would say by some distance the biggest success story of the new series, her doing BF would definitely be bigger news than Jodie.

Karen is I would say by some distance the biggest success story of the new series, her doing BF would definitely be bigger news than Jodie. She's in a big franchise of course but what would her joining be without Matt at least? Jodie is an actual Doctor. The lead of a the whole franchise. She may not be as big a star as Karen - though has Karen any roles not bald and under blue makeup people know her for? But since Big Finish don't sell tens of thousands anyway, that doesnt seem too much of an issue. Louise Jameson was a better known actor than Colin or Sylvester thanks to being a regular on Tenko, Eastenders and other roles. But Leela wasn't as fundamental to storytelling as The Sixth and Seventh Doctors. Even Frazer would have had a claim to being more famous than latter Doctors thanks to 20 years on Emmerdale. But being more famous as a person and you playing a character who is the most important are two different things. Matt, Jodie, Peter - they're the white whales, the leads.

I’m skeptical for two reasons The first is undoing River’s death and the second another range relaunch, which is beginning to feel unnecessary and frustrating. However, Robert Valentine writing the full set gives me a lot of hope, and I’m open to being convinced this is a worthwhile choice.

And I’m amazed they’ve never done anything with Brian throughout her range. It would be great to have Mark Williams as Brian Pond for a story or two. And if Karen was back as Amy, I'm not sure they'd just tuck it in River's 14th boxset. Though Big Finish did get Michael Palin - for a random Torchwood monthly of all things. So anythings possible. Well, it's the start of a new series. And she could hypothetically also be appearing in an Eleventh Doctor set not announced yet around the same time. But as you said, there's no reason to think that post is work-related.

I don't think it's quite fair to frame this range as undermining River's death, when the point of her final/first story was very much that she did not die.
And while I certainly share your reticence with the necessity of any post-'Library' stories, the science fiction fan in me can't help but point out that simulated worlds -- like the one in which River is presently trapped -- have historically been a very rich vein for the genre to tap into. And one that, to my knowledge, Doctor Who has yet to mine to any meaningful extent. So pencil me in as cautiously optimistic.

"The story is divided into four episodes, or books, all scripted by Robert Valentine:
Book 1 – Apokalypsis Book 2 – Fate & Fatality Book 3 – The Black Hours Book 4 – Book of the Dead "
Please note: the collector’s edition CD box sets are strictly limited to 1,250 copies and will not be repressed.

Well, I think interest might go up here now what we know it's a prequel to The Ark in Space and that Lazar and Vira appear.
