What's the Master up to *this* time? A brainstorming thread.

I've always thought that if BF had done a DW/B7 crossover, it should have been about the Master arming the rebels and the Doctor helping defend a Federation outpost, only for both of them to realise that they have completely misread the situation and joined the wrong side.

It could also be feasible to do a story where the Master has to save the world to order to ensure the item he wants (perhaps a weapon, perhaps just his own TARDIS) isn't destroyed.

I like the Beevers Master when he's used in the way of Master and Masterful - when he gets a glimpse at "normal" life and really loves it. You can't do that with Missy, Ainley, Delagdo, Sacha. They're either too mad or too hell bent on dominance. Beevers as a blank slate is a gift. Alex McQueen can be a lower key stakes Master too.

The problem with antagonists - the Loki show proved this - you can't just turn them into good guys and expect them to remain a threat. Also it's very hard to have the main character be constantly evil. Hence we've had a million Jacobi stories where he's super polite and nice....then not.

But it's The Master. The clue in the name has to be adhered to more often than not otherwise...why use the Master?

Personally I think the character has suffered from overuse by BF. Like River there's no real novelty now. They're used more than most Doctors.

Stephen Moffat wrote a short story in which the seventh Doctor completely rewrites a librarian's life in order to change her into the kind of person who would let him take out a book. Maybe the Master could wreck the backstory of a humble webdesigner in order to crash a database and in so doing give the Master access to the one thing he desires above all, that he and only he should possess... a copy of "Absent Friends"
