I know, I know, I know. I have lots of issues with a vinyl reissue with remastered sound and newly produced bts not being available to CD buyers as well believe me. Digital recordings designed for CD pressed onto analogue vinyl is, from an audiophile point of view, interesting to say the least. I have personal opinions on this practice but not to be discussed here. Damn! There goes my hopes of a Limited Edition LP version of this with deluxe packaging...

Mark, seems like I'm always thanking you for something. And man but the completist bug is really clawing at me for the DVD limited edition for all the extras.

Apparently it's been delayed (originally was July 2017). If it means we get the best possible product I don't mind if it's a little late Cheers Tony

here are some reviews for BBC version this 1.0 out of 5 stars Hoping the Martians would Win ByRJSteveneon 7 June 2017 1 star Format: Audio Download|Verified Purchase The most positive word I can use for this rather pointless drama is disappointing. The writer seems to have tried the best she can to use the smallest amount of Well's from the book as possible with the vast amount of dialogue focussed on the trivial. It sounds like the characters are watching a cricket match rather than being invaded and devastated by aliens. I don't know whether it's the writers or directors fault but there also seems to be very little urgency and no tension at all with the main character more concerned about his writers block than killer Martians on his doorstep. The Martians are only mentioned briefly with the vast majority of the play focussed on the people, who all seem to be so unlikable it makes you want the Martians to win. The main character (who goes out of his way to mention a number of times that he isn't a journalist, so yah boo sucks to you, Jeff Wayne) is an irritable wimp, the parson a personification of evil sounding like a school bully and the artillaryman as a wide boy criminal. There is nothing to like about any of them and all the people seem to be so nasty to each other it sounds like they won't leave much left for the Martians to have to deal with. I do wonder if the writer isn't a Sci-Fi buff as she seems to have kept any elements of that to the barest minimum. Focussing on the people's stories would be worthwhile if it was about their dealing with the horrors of the alien invasion but most of it is on their dealing with each other and minor issues. Also there are some significant changes to the original story that undermines the main character significantly and the story unnecessarily continues well beyond the end of the original novel, to apparently make the point that people are as bad as the aliens (in this case even worse). The sound effects, what few there are, sound like they've been lifted from Spielbergs movie version. So all in all rather boring, irritating and pointless which means that Jeff Wayne's musical version is still (unbelievably) the most accurate media version of Wells original novel. 1 Comment| 3 people found this helpful. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Report abuse 1.0 out of 5 starsHorrific, but for all the wrong reasons! ByPeter Coleon 9 July 2017 1 star Format: Audio CD As a War of The Worlds collector I have most of the versions of Well's story dramatised in the USA and UK (including the 1950 and 1967 BBC radio versions) and without doubt this is the worst. The changes to Wells' original story are both unnecessary and poorly executed (for the first 15 minutes I was unsure if I was listening to a comedy), and the characterisations so irritating - the narrator in particular has become a loathsome individual and actually worse than the curate (who was never a likeable character in the original text) - that you hope the Martians just hurry up and finish them off. There's also the grating introduction of sexual assault into the narrative, presumably as a device for showing that humans are as bad, or worse, than the Martians. When elements of Wells' story - snippets of dialogue or the odd descriptive phrase - do appear, they're just crow-barred in, whether they fit or not, which at least allowed them to keep Well's name attached to this version. The 1967 BBC production is out there on CD (it runs for 3 hours, with 6 half-hour episodes hours, rather than the 2 hours of this new version, and has an excellent turn by Paul Daneman as the narrator and Peter Sallis as a still very annoying curate) - track that down rather than getting this one. 4.0 out of 5 stars2017 Radio drama Bywolferson 4 May 2017 4 star Format: Audio CD|Verified Purchase Another retelling of the famous 1898 H.G.Wells classic invasion story. We've had numerous versions over the years, and the only one nigh on faithful to the book was the Jeff Wayne Musical version(1978). This new full cast dramatisation is really as good as the aforementioned.Obviously the book was written in a journalistic, first person account of the enfolding disaster, and therefore did not draw on a huge cast of characters, therefore any radio play was going to have to introduce a handful of parts to flesh out a radio play.Thankfully it works really well in this instance, and more importantly stays contemporary to the 1898,s period of the Wells tale.Thoroughly engrossing with great special effects and good performances from all concerned. If,like me you are a big Wells or War Of The Worlds fan then i would urge you to purchase this 2 disc set as it is a great companion piece to the Musical version and far better than the Pal or Spielberg films, and Orson Welles version. No one would have believed.......now you can.
I listen to this version I wished I had not I backed The Coming of the Martians 1 because directed by Lisa Bowerman and 2 it is my fav book of all time

We are roughly 1 week behind. As eric009 stated, The Coming of the Martians WILL be available to all in September. I don't want to overrun the standard 2 month delay from the initial release date that a lot of successful Kickstarter projects have.
Of course, this delay would be unacceptable if we were an established business. However, Sherwood Sound Studios is essentially a start-up business, so we have zero staff and work on this has been completed during a very busy full-time day job.
I believe fans of the original novel are going to love what we have done and will be well worth the wait!
Best regards, Martin Johnson, Producer
